CHIASSON AND CHEREVATY MOVE CLOSER TO SETTING NEW SCORING RECORD
The top two teams in the East Division battled it out on the ice this weekend with Toronto coming out on top with a 3-2 victory over the Brock Badgers. Amy Caldwell and Janine Davies each scored a goal while veteran Blues player, Jacqueline Cherevaty, scored her fifth goal of the season to put her one point closer to the scoring record with 125 points. Kate Allgood and Heather Goemans had a goal a piece for the Badgers while Brock goaltender Angie Mallory helped keep this game close stopping 37 of the 40 shots she faced. With the win Toronto improved to 8-3-1 on the season while Brock dropped to 6-3-1-1.
Queen's 3, Western 0
The Queen's Golden Gaels dominated the Western Mustangs this weekend shutting them out in a 3-0 victory. Assistant captain, Tara Kimber, opened the scoring for the Golden Gaels in the first period while teammates Keri Baker and Michelle Clark-Crumpton each added a goal in the second period to secure the victory for the team. Team captain, Elizabeth Chiasson, also played a strong game for Queen's assisting on all three of the teams goals, putting her only five points away from tying the all time career scoring record with 131 points. Chiasson will look to set a new scoring record on Friday against a tough Toronto team.
Guelph 2, Waterloo 1 (OT)
The Guelph Gryphons continued their winning ways in 2005 defeating the Waterloo Warriors 2-1 in overtime on Saturday. Kirsten Lindstol put the Warriors up a goal midway through the second but Carrie Tokarcyzk evened the score for the Gryphons with an unassisted goal. The score remained tied at a goal a piece after regulation time sending this game into overtime where rookie Gryphon player, Elaine Dumas, scored her seventh goal of the season, giving Guelph the 2-1 victory. Alexis Huber played a strong game for the Warriors stopping 27 of the 29 shots she faced but it was not enough to overcome the league leading Gryphons.
Laurier 3, Queen's 1
The Laurier Golden Hawks continued their strong play on Saturday defeating the Golden Gales 3-1. Laurier jumped out to a 1-0 lead at 6:15 in the first period on a Merritt Blundy goal while teammates, Lyndsey Parissenti and Samantha Cully scored two quick goals early in the third period to secure the 3-1 victory. Debbie Abriel was the lone scorer for Queen's but they could not overcome the deficit. With the win Laurier improved to 9-1-2-1 on the season while Queen's dropped to 6-5-0-1.
