GUELPH AND LAURIER CONTINUE TO DOMINATE IN THE WEST
The No. 4 ranked Guelph Gryphons ended the Queen's Golden Gaels undefeated streak Saturday night in Kingston defeating them 4-3, in overtime. The Gaels built up a 3-0 lead in the first period, but allowed the Gryphons to claw their way back with 3 goals in the second period. After a scoreless third period, the game headed for overtime. In overtime, Captain Katie Ennis gave the Gryphons the win when she beat Claire Hunt with under a minute to go. Rookie Gryphon player, Nicole Latreille, also had a strong game for Guelph scoring two goals and adding an assist in the victory. Scoring for the Gaels were Michelle Clark-Crumpton, Elizabeth Chiasson, and Miranda Costie. With the win, the Gryphons remain atop the tough West Division with a 13-2-2 record while Queen's remains in the hunt for top spot in the East with an 8-5-1-2 record.
Laurier 3, Toronto 1
The No. 2 Laurier Golden Hawks captured a 3-1 road victory over the No. 9 Toronto Varsity Blues Sunday afternoon despite being outshot 30-17 in the game. The score was tied at one after two periods of play but the Hawks scored two unanswered goals in the third period to secure the victory. Laurier's goal scorers were Lindsay Arbeau, Laurissa Kenworthy, and Ashley Stephenson while third-year goaltender, Cindy Eadie, played a strong game for the Hawks keeping her team in the game stopping 29 of the 30 shots she faced. The Blues lone goal scorer was veteran player Amy Caldwell. With the win Laurier remains in second place in the West Division just one point behind the league leading Gryphons.
Brock 4, York 1
The tenth ranked team in the nation, the Brock Badgers, hosted the last place York Lions Friday night and dominated the game winning in convincing fashion 4-1. Centre, Kate Allgood, played an outstanding game for the Badgers scoring three goals while teammate, Amy Patrick, scored Brock's other goal in the victory. Pam Fairbridge was the lone goal scorer for the Lions whose offence continues to struggle this season. With the win, the Badgers move into a first place tie with Toronto with a 10-3-1-1 record and will look to continue their strong play against their division rivals, the Queen's Golden Gaels, on Friday night.
Waterloo 3, Western 1
Despite being outshot 30-19, the Warriors were able to pull out a 3-1 victory over the Mustangs on Friday afternoon. Rookie Centre, Sarah Bryson, recorded a hat trick in the game leading her team to the all important victory over the Mustangs. Goaltender, Alexis Huber also played a strong game for the Warriors stopping 29 of the 30 shots she faced. Western's lone goal scorer was Trisha Quirk. With the victory, Waterloo secures third place in the West and remains in playoff contention improving their record to 6-9-3-1 record on the season.
