Clark-Crumpton also opened the scoring for the Gaels in the first period and added an assist in the game. Third year player, Keri Baker, also helped lead the Gaels into the semis with a goal and an assist while veteran OUA all-time scorer, Elizabeth Chiasson, added three assists in the victory. The Gaels other scorers were Lynn Watson and Miranda Costie.
Guelph was led by veteran forward, Katie Ennis, who scored a goal and added an assist in the overtime loss to the Gales. Michelle Chartier, Elysia Desmier, and Arden Sullivan scored singles for the Gryphons while net minder Aleisha Lusk helped keep this game close stopping 36 shots.
In the second quarterfinal match Saturday night at the Merritton Arena, the Brock Badgers won their first ever playoff match defeating the Waterloo Warriors by a score of 4-1 to advance to the second round where they will face the defending champion Laurier Golden Hawks. The first period was full of back and forth action, with both teams getting lots of scoring chances. With 4 minutes left in the period, Brock's leading scorer, Kate Allgood (Toronto, ON) scored her 26th goal of the year and first of the playoffs beating Waterloo net minder Alexis Huber to give the Badgers a 1-0 lead heading into the second period.
Brock continued putting the pressure on the Warriors when 4th year Heather Allen set up 2nd year Briar Komenda (London, ON) on a 2 on 1, putting the puck past Huber midway through the 2nd period. Just five minutes later Allgood put the Badgers up by three goals recording her second goal of the match with Allen and 3rd year Sarah McDade picking up the assists.
Waterloo kept it a tight game in the 3rd period, but 4th year goaltender, Angie Mallory, stopped almost everything shot her way finishing with 36 saves. With just over a minute to go in the game, Allgood picked up the hat trick scoring an empty net goal. Waterloo wouldn't quit as Lindsay Wood scored with under a minute to go top make the final 4-1.
The final four takes place this weekend in Toronto, as Laurier will look to defend their OUA title. The action begins on Friday with Brock playing Laurier at 4:00 p.m. and Queen's facing the hometown team the Varsity Blues at 8:00 p.m. to set up the final to be played on Saturday.
