PLAYOFF PICTURE FORMED
Toronto edged Queen's 5-4, on Jillian Savin's three-goals, one-assist performance Friday. The next day, the Blues fell to Brock, 2-1. A Badger 3-0 loss to Laurier Sunday gave Toronto the East division regular season title as the Badgers came within two points of the top spot in the East.
Guelph 3, Laurier 1
In the battle for 1st place in the OUA West Division, the Gryphons needed a victory to close the gap on Laurier. Guelph came out strong scoring twice on goals by Nicole Latreille and Michelle Chartier for a 2-1 lead after the first period. Net minder Aleisha Lusk stopped 21 shots for her 14th victory of the year. Guelph's final goal was scored by Kate Ennis on an empty net with 45 seconds left. This marked Ennis's 60th career goal. She is now the Gryphons' all-time scoring leader surpassing the mark of 59 set by Kerri-Anne Rudaniecki (1998-02). Lindsay Trimble had 2 assists exceeding the 100 point mark for her career and now stands at 101. With 25 points (8 goals, 17 assists) on the season, Trimble is 4th leading scorer in the OUA.
Brock 2, Toronto 1
The Brock University women's hockey team (13-6-1-1) remained in the hunt for their first ever OUA East Division title as they moved two points closer, defeating the first place University of Toronto Varsity Blues by the score of 2-1. Toronto got on the board first 3:37 into the second period, when Jill Clark set up Amy Caldwell for her 7th of the campaign. Brock answered back with two goals in the second period. Fourth year Michelle Edgar tied the game 1-1 with 8:53 left in the second, when she put a backhand under the crossbar beating Toronto netminder Lisa Robertson for her sixth goal of the season. Erin Quinn and Heather Allen registered assists. Kate Allgood set up Heather Allen for her 8th of the season and second point of the night with less than five minutes left in the second, as she broke in all alone beating Robertson short side with the eventual game winner. Brock's Angie Mallory turned aside 35 of 36 Varsity Blues shots for the victory. At the other end Toronto's Roberston finished with 26 saves.
Laurier 3, Brock 0
The Brock University women's hockey team (13-7-1-1) ended the regular season with a 3-0 loss to the #2 ranked Laurier Golden Hawks. With the loss the Badgers finish in second place in the OUA East. Laurier led 2-0 after one period and added the third midway through the second period. Goal scorers were Andrea Bevan, Diana Cicchillo and Amanda Joseph. In goal Laurier's Cindy Eadie recorded 17 saves for her nation leading ninth shutout of the season. It was also her CIS leading 17th victory. Brock's Angie Mallory registered 29 saves in the loss finishing the regular season with a 9-6-1 record.
