LANCERS HIRE TODD LALONDE TO GUIDE WOMEN'S HOCKEY PROGRAM
An experienced coach in both the amateur and professional ranks, Todd served as the Head Coach and General Manger of the OHL’s Sudbury Wolves from 1995-1998. Following his time with the Wolves, Lalonde took over as the Head Coach of the Waco Wizards of the Western Professional Hockey League, now the Central Hockey League. There, he was named the 1998-99 WPHL Coach of the Year as he took a Wizards team that had failed to make the playoffs during its first two seasons, and guided them to a franchise best record of 40-22-7 and a Central Division Championship.
“We are very excited to have a coach of Todd’s calibre coaching our Lancer Women’s Hockey program next season,” said Grace. “His extensive experience in the OHL, WPHL and with Canada’s development programs will be invaluable for our female hockey players.”
Lalonde’s coaching background also includes time with Canada’s National Development program, as he served as the Head Coach of both Canada’s Under 17 and Under 18 teams. As well, Todd served as the Head Coach of Ontario’s Under 17 Team at the 1994 Canada Winter Games in Grand Prairie, Alberta and the Head Coach of Ontario’s Under 17 team at the World Championships in Moncton, New Brunswick in 1995, where they won the Gold Medal.
A native of Sudbury, Ontario, and a former 3rd round pick of the Boston Bruins, Todd also enjoyed success during his playing career. He played his junior hockey for the OHL’s Sudbury Wolves, where he was a nominee in 1988-89 for the Ontario Hockey League Player of the Year after recording 32 goals and 76 points that season. Lalonde was also a nominee in 1987-88 for the Ontario Hockey League’s Scholastic Player of the Year.
Todd’ strong hockey background along with his ability to teach fundamentals, develop player skills and implement effective practice sessions make him an ideal fit for the Lancer Women’s Hockey program.
“I am very excited to be resuming my coaching career at the University of Windsor,” commented Lalonde. “It’s a great opportunity to take over the coaching duties for the Lancer Women’s Hockey program and I look forward to the chance to help build our program into a National Championship contending team.”
