OUA W-SOCCER ROUNDUP: LAKERS TIE NO. 5 GEE-GEES
The Gee-Gees got on the board in the eight minute as second-year midfielder Tara Condos (Strathroy, Ont.) opened the scoring. The score remained 1-0 through halftime.
Nipissing head coach Vito Castiglione rallied his troops during the break, as fourth-year defender Kathleen Fuller (Ottawa) scored the equalizer in the 65th minute. Less than 10 minutes later, the Lakers grabbed a 2-1 advantage as third-year midfielder Stephanie Stubbert (North Bay, Ont.) got on the scoresheet.
The Gee-Gees, however, would salvage one point on their journey to North Bay as fifth-year striker Courtney Luscombe (Ottawa) booted the game-tying goal in the 85th minute.
The Gee-Gees continue their road trip on Sunday afternoon when they visit the Laurentian Lady Vees.
TORONTO 3, TRENT 0
At Toronto, fourth-year midfielder Melanie Seabra (Brampton, Ont.) got the early lead in the OUA scoring race, netting two goals as the Varsity Blues blanked the Trent Excalibur at home.
Second-year player Andre Beaupre (Williamstown, Ont.) scored the other goal for Toronto.
Mary Ann Barnes (Scarborough, Ont.) recorded the shutout between the pipes for the Varsity Blues.
QUEEN'S 3, RYERSON 0
At Ryerson, three different Queen's Gaels earned goals in a 3-0 road win against the Rams.
First-year striker Jackie Tessier (Winnipeg, Man.), fifth-year striker Renee MacLellan (Kingston, Ont.) and third-year midfielder Mary Kampman (Penticton, B.C.) all scored goals for the Gaels.
Chantel Marson (London, Ont.) earned the shutout in goal for Queen's.
LAURENTIAN 1, CARLETON 0
At Laurentian, fifth-year goaltender Meghan Hoffberg recorded a shutout as the host Lady Vees pulled out a 1-0 victory over the Carleton Ravens.
The game remained scoreless until the 79th minute, when fifth-year defender Sam Falcioni (Sudbury, Ont.) broke the deadlock.
The game was sweet revenge for the Lady Vees, who lost to the Ravens on the home pitch 2-1 after penalty kicks in the opening round of last year's OUA playoffs.
