OUA WOMAN OF INFLUENCE: KATIE LUGG
The event honours female student-athletes who have excelled in their chosen sports and fields of study. This year's guest speaker will be former prima ballerina and arts advocate Karen Kain.
Acknowledged as one of the leading classical ballerinas of her time, Kain is also one of Canada's foremost arts advocates, bringing the same passion and dedication she exemplified as a dancer to her roles as a spokesperson for Canadian culture and as the artistic director of The National Ballet of Canada.
Tickets to the luncheon are $88.20 each (taxes included) and can be purchased by calling Stephanie White at 416-923-1688 ext. 21 or via e-mail at info@womenofinfluenceinc.ca.

Name: Katie Lugg
School: University of Ottawa
Sport: Soccer
Academic Program: Commerce
Hometown: Ottawa
Katie did not play varsity soccer her first year as a uOttawa student. Balancing a sports career with Canada's national ringette team and achieving early academic success in school were her first priorities.
With those goals accomplished, the Ottawa native added to her athletic portfolio, starting as a wide player for the Gee-Gees and earning an all-Canadian award.
For her final two years, Katie played out of position as a defender for the benefit of the team. The commerce major was a true team player who understood that success is about sacrifice and team performance rather than individual achievement. Katie was the team captain and undisputed leader in her final season. Her role as captain was about selflessness, dedication and consideration.
In 2009, Lugg was named uOttawa's women's President Award winner for academics, athletics and community service. Lugg was also recognized as the Gee-Gees female athlete of the year for her tremendous work ethic and leadership.
