GEE-GEES STREAK LIVES ON IN WOMEN'S SOCCER
Third-year midfielder Katie Landry and fourth-year striker Sara Bullock scored Wednesday night at the Ravens' Nest in No. 5 uOttawa's 2-0 win over Carleton to preserve an unblemished record in the all-time city rivalry.
The Gee-Gees (2-0-1) are 24-0-7 against Carleton in the 16-year regular season history of the meeting of the teams.
"It's not just one cycle of kids, it's every cycle of kids," said Gee-Gees coach Steve Johnson, who has never lost to the Ravens in the regular season since founding the uOttawa intervarsity program in 1994.
"The streak is a lot of pressure actually," said Landry, who tapped a ball past first-year Ravens goalkeeper Rachel Bedek at the 15-minute mark for the only goal of the first half.
"We can't play scared, but we have to play together."
The Ravens remain winless at 0-2-1 this season under first year head coach Alex McNutt.
uOttawa, which out-shot Carleton 7-2, recorded its second straight shutout in three regular season games.
"We are pretty much strong all around," said fifth-year Gee-Gees striker Courtney Luscombe, the CIS, OUA and uOttawa female athlete of the week after scoring twice to open the season last weekend.
uOttawa second-year transfer Melissa Pesant of Gatineau along with first-year goalkeeper Lisa Anne Sachsalber combined for the two-shot shutout. The Gee-Gees host Royal Military College for season-opening home match Sat., Sept. 12, 1 p.m. at Matt Anthony Field. uOttawa also hosts Ryerson Sun., Sept. 13, 1 p.m.
