OUA W-SOCCER ROUNDUP: NO. 3 GEE-GEES BLANK NO. 6 VARSITY BLUES
The Gee-Gees and the No. 6 Varsity Blues both came into the game with nine wins and two ties apiece, but the Gee-Gees victory added the first loss to the Blues regular-season record.
Both teams displayed high intensity early on in the game, putting lots of pressure on the field. Fifth-year striker Courtney Luscombe (Ottawa) scored uOttawa's first goal 10 minutes into the game, and second-year midfielder Brittany Harrison (Burlington, Ont.) added another shortly after to secure the win. Recording the team's eighth shutout of the season was second-year netminder Mélissa Pesant (Gatineau, Que.).
"It is a great accomplishment for us," said Luscombe. She explained that the team cleaned up a lot of their mistakes and was able to capitalize on several opportunities.
"This is one of the best teams in Canada by far, and us beating them proves that we can be the best as well."
Head coach Steve Johnson was also pleased with the team's efforts.
"This is very encouraging for us and the work that we've done in the last couple of weeks to become a more offensive team."
Prior to Saturday's game, the Blues had only three goals scored against.
"Scoring two goals against them was terrific," added Johnson.
QUEEN'S 2, LAURENTIAN 0

The Ravens offence chipped in with two goals as Alex Druggett, a rookie midfielder from Ottawa, scored her first career game-winning goal at the sixth minute of play and veteran Aisha Stinson (Ottawa), the player of the game, scored at the 71st minute on great pass from Shayla LaVecchia (Ottawa) to secure the victory over the Excalibur (1-11-1) and keep Carleton in fourth Place in the heavily contested race for the fourth spot in the standings.
