Bestard, an offensive lineman, was selected in the fourth round (35th overall). Bestard played in the 2008 East-West Bowl representing Wilfrid Laurier.
In the fifth round, Winnipeg chose running back Quinney with the 35th overall choice. In 2008, Quinney had 10 receptions for 122 yards playing slot back with Laurier. He was the 2008 Impact Player of the Year.
With the 45th overall selection, the Blue Bombers picked linebacker Carter from Queen's. Carter was selected the 2008 CIS and OUA stand-up defensive player of the year.
"We are pleased to get these young men signed and onto our roster. I know that they are quality players that will come in and be very competitive in training camp," said Blue Bombers head coach Mike Kelly.
Winnipeg's East Division rivals, the Toronto Argonauts, also signed a pair of OUA players selected from the recent draft. Zachary Pollari was Toronto's fourth round pick. He played right tackle for the Western Mustangs where he book-ended a line with left tackle and Argos 2008 CFL Draft pick Richard Zulys. His best season came in his senior year where he was selected to play in the 2008 CIS East-West Bowl and started in the Vanier Cup championship.
Defensive back Brad Crawford (Hamilton, Ont.) comes to the Argos after being drafted in the sixth round (43rd overall) of the draft. The brother of Argos running back and Queen's alumnus Bryan Crawford, Brad played four seasons in five different positions as a Guelph Gryphon. He finished third on his team with 34 tackles as a senior, but started his university career as a running back.
Queen’s Gaels defensive lineman Dee Sterling (Kingston, Ont.) was selected in the third round (12th overall) by the Edmonton Eskimos and has signed on with the club. He has a prestigious senior year in 2008 with 33 defensive tackles (26 solo), 7.5 sacks, two pass knockdowns and one forced fumble. He finished the year as a CIS all-Canadian and OUA first team all-star.
