OUA FOOTBALL PLAYOFF SCENARIOS REVISITED
Playoff scenarios have been edited to include 17 possibilities depending on outcomes this Saturday. With four teams tied with 5-2 records heading into the final week of the regular season, many possibilities exist for seeding in the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) football playoffs beginning on Saturday, Oct. 31.
While five playoff spots have been secured, one does still remain open. The Guelph Gryphons currently hold the No. 6 seed, but a combination of a loss to the McMaster Marauders, a Windsor Lancers win against the Ottawa Gee-Gees and a Waterloo Warriors victory over the York Lions would send the Lancers into the post-season based on a three-way tiebreaker.
The Queen’s Gaels (7-0) have clinched first place, a first-round bye and home field advantage through the 102nd Yates Cup, presented by Pioneer Petroleums.
Seeds two, three, four, five and six will be determined after games this Saturday, Oct. 24. The McMaster Marauders, Ottawa Gee-Gees, Western Mustangs and Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks all have 5-2 records and are all jockeying for second place and a first-round bye, while two consolation prizes of home field advantage in the OUA quarter-finals will be given to the third and fourth seeds.
