FAULDS BECOMES ALL-TIME CAREER MUSTANGS PASSING LEADER IN VICTORY OVER LANCERS
With the loss, Windsor falls to 2-1 on the season as they now get ready to face the Waterloo Warriors next weekend in Waterloo.
The Lancers opened the game with a bang as Colin Dixon intercepted the very first pass from Faulds to help get the Windsor offensive unit on the field.
Western answered back with a fumble recovery of their own on the very next play that eventually led to a 19-yard touchdown pass to Nathan Riva.
The back and fourth action continued as Lancer quarterback Dan Carloni led the offence down the field for a touchdown to make the score 7-7. The drive was capped off by a 26-yard pass to Marcel Samuel.
From there, the first quarter was controlled by the Mustangs as Nathan Riva punched in his second touchdown at the 4:38 mark to put the Mustangs up 14-7. The quarter was capped off by a similar drive that saw Da'Shawn Thomas score a touchdown on the last play of the quarter to give the Mustangs a 21-7 lead after 15 minutes.
In the second, an interception by the Mustangs was followed by a three-yard run by Riva for his third touchdown of the game. A safety conceded by the Lancers at 8:48 gave the Mustangs a 31-7 lead in the second quarter.
Quickly after the safety, Faulds found Josh Svec for a 52-yard pass that was followed by a run by Thomas for his second touchdown of the night.
The Lancers were unable to slow down the high powered Mustang offence which continued to roll with a another Riva touchdown run of 52 yards. The score was Riva's fourth touchdown of the night and made it 48-7 in favour of Western at half.
After the break, the Mustangs continued to show why they are ranked No. 2 in the country as they punched in another touchdown into the end zone. Western would add a late touchdown and field goal to close out the game.
For Western, Faulds completed 16-of-21 passes for 336 yards and one touchdown. Faulds breaks Chris Hessel's mark of 8,674 yards and now chases Ben Chapdelaine's OUA all-time passing yardage record of 9,974 set during his time, coached by Greg Marshall, at McMaster. Faulds currently has 8,693 passing yards.
Riva carried the ball 14 times for 131 yards and four touchdowns.
For Windsor, Dan Carloni completed 13-of-25 passes for 136 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions. Derek Hymers carried the ball seven times for 30 yards while Cory Fernandes caught seven passes for 61 yards.
The Lancers will look to get back on track next weekend as they head to Waterloo to battle the University of Waterloo Warriors. Kick-off on Saturday in Waterloo is 1 p.m. The Mustangs visit the Guelph Gryphons in a game that can be seen on The Score. Game time is 1 p.m. on Saturday.
