FOUR OUA STUDENT-ATHLETES NAMED TOP 15 CFL PROSPECTS
TORONTO - The Canadian Football League's scouting bureau announced today the top 15 prospects that are eligible for the 2010 CFL Canadian Draft.
The bureau, comprised of CFL scouts, player personnel directors and general managers, named four OUA student-athletes in their top 15. They include:
Chima Ihekwoaba, DE, Wilfrid Laurier: The fourth-year communication studies student from Burlington, Ont. has one solo tackle and three assisted tackles so far in 2009. He had 2.5 sacks in 2008. Ihekwoa was a member of the 2009 CIS East West Bowl.
Rob Maver, K/P, Guelph: The fourth-year political science major from Brampton, Ont. (pictured) currently leads the OUA with a 44.5 yard punting average and has been perfect on six field goal attempts and 12 extra point converts. He made three field goals between 31 and 35 yards in the 2009 CIS East West Bowl. He was named an OUA all-star and CIS all-Canadian in 2008.
Taurean Allen, DB, Wilfrid Laurier: The fourth-year communication studies major out of Etobicoke, Ont. has made eight solo tackles in 2009. Allen is a two-time OUA first-team all-star and 2007 second-team all-Canadian. He had an assisted tackle in the 2009 CIS East West Bowl.
Shomari Williams, LB, Queen's: The fourth-year concurrent education student from Brampton, Ont. played previously with the University of Houston Cougars.
Eight OUA student-athletes were selected in the 2009 CFL Canadian Draft, including current Edmonton Eskimos defensive lineman Dee Stirling.
