HAMILTON, Ont. – The following athletes have been named Pioneer Petroleums OUA Athletes of the Week for the period ending September 13, 2009.
All Pioneer Petroleums OUA Athletes of the Week will each receive a $25 gift card and a dri-fit t-shirt, courtesy of Pioneer Petroleums.
MALE: Jordan Wilson-Ross, Ottawa Gee-Gees, Football
The first-year running back rushed for 232 yards and two touchdowns in just his second OUA contest in a 45-11 road win at Waterloo on Sept. 12. A 20-year-old from Alliston, Ont. who played 10 games last year at Nassau Community College (Garden City, N.Y.) and is a prospect for the Canadian men's senior rugby team, Wilson-Ross produced touchdown runs of 10 yards in the first quarter and 33 yards in the second before finishing with the third-highest rushing total in Ottawa football program history, behind Bill Harrison's 277 yards in 1974 and Davie Mason's CIS playoff-record 372 yards in 2008. Wilson-Ross is also the OUA Football Offensive Player of the Week.
FEMALE: Caitlin Martin, Waterloo Warriors, Rugby
Martin, a fourth-year engineering student from Teeswater, Ont. scored three tries on Sept. 12 as the Waterloo Warriors began the 2009 OUA women’s rugby season with a 27-5 win over the visiting Toronto Varsity Blues. Martin is a 2008 OUA all-star and is the leader, on and off the field, for the emerging Warriors.
