LIONS M-HOCKEY START OFF 2009 ON WINNING NOTE
The Ravens' Ryan Berard scored the game's first goal at the 1:23 mark of the first period, giving the visitors an early lead. The Lions would not be denied and responded by scoring the next four goals to take a commanding 4-1 lead.
Lions forward Doug Henderson (Bradford, Ont.) got the Lions on the board at the 2:06 mark of the first period. Third year forward Jesse Grespan (Toronto, Ont.) followed up Henderson's effort with a pair of goals of his own, scoring his first at the 16:10 mark of the first period and his second on a power play at the 14:37 mark of the second period.
Lions defencemen Kyle Searle (Newtonville, Ont.) also contributed with a power play goal at the 4:27 mark of the third period.
Carleton's Francis Walker cut the deficit to 4-2 at the 9:07 mark of the third period by taking advantage of a Lions penalty.
York's Nathanial Brooks responded just over a minute later to extend the Lions lead to 5-2. The Ravens would not back down and scored two goals to bring the score to 5-4 with just over five minutes left to play.
The Lions put the game away for good as Searle scored his second goal of the game on an empty netter with just over a minute left to play.
