LANCERS MEN'S HOCKEY TEAM SET TO INVADE MICHIGAN, MIAMI (OHIO)
The Lancers will kick off their season on Sat., Oct. 3 as they travel to Oxford, Ohio to take on the Miami (Ohio) Redhawks.
The Redhawks are coming off a national championship runner-up finish in their first-ever Frozen Four appearance in program history.
Miami returns 19 players from last year's squad including the highly touted freshmen goaltending duo of Connor Knapp and Cody Reichard and big power forward Justin Vaive, son of former Toronto Maple Leaf captain Rick Vaive.
Coach Hamlin's team will then travel to Ann Arbor, Mich. for a battle against the Michigan Wolverines on Sun., Oct. 4 at Yost Arena.
The Wolverines finished the 2008-09 season with a 29-12 record and ranked No. 3 in the nation. Michigan returns 20 players from last year's team which reached the NCAA east regional semi-final.
To round out their NCAA non-conference schedule, the Lancers will travel to New York in late October for a two-game set with Cornell University and Princeton University from the Ivy League.
Cornell finished the season with a 22-10-4 record and reached the NCAA midwest regional championship game a year ago. The Princeton Tigers were 22-12-1 in 2008-09 and reached the NCAA west regional semi-final.
Hamlin is very pleased with how their NCAA non-conference schedule sets up for next season.
"We're thrilled to have put together arguably the toughest non-conference schedule in the country for next season," said Hamlin. "It will be a great opportunity for our team to compete against premier NCAA programs like Michigan, Miami, Cornell and Princeton and it should get us battle-tested for the upcoming OUA season."
The Lancers officially open training camp in the second week of September with their annual captain's skates.
