FORMER BADGER CALLED UP TO AHL WITH LAKE ERIE MONSTERS
"I couldn't be happier for Ryan. Making it to the AHL is a testament to his strong work ethic on and off the ice," said Brock assistant coach Ryan Lounsbury. "The past two summers he dedicated himself to get in the best physical condition he could, and that hard work and dedication has paid off."
Prior to being called up, Del Monte was third in team scoring with the Johnstown Chiefs and 15th in the ECHL adding 16 goals and 31 assists for 47 points in 66 regular season games. His impressive plus-21 rating was also eighth in the ECHL.
"We knew that Ryan could play in the AHL with his overall speed and his ability to be a two-way player," said Lounsbury. "He brings a lot of skill in all aspects of the game to his team."
"Ryan showed tremendous potential as an elite player in the OUA," said Brock Director of Athletics Dr. Lorne Adams. "It is gratifying to see that he can make the transition from university hockey to the professional leagues so quickly."
In 2007-08, Del Monte played his final season at Brock and led the team in scoring with 19 goals and 16 assists for 35 points in just 25 games. Those totals placed him ninth in OUA and 16th in CIS in scoring. In his senior season, Del Monte captained the Badgers to OUA West Division title, and their first berth in the Cavendish University Cup national championship tournament in school history.
He also topped all Badgers scorers as a junior in 2006-07 with 15 goals and 19 assists in 27 games, and was named the team's most valuable player for his efforts.
In his career at Brock (2004-2008), Del Monte skated in 89 games registering 103 points with 44 goals and 59 assists.
"At Brock we feel that we can develop the players to play at the next level," said Lounsbury. "After their major junior careers, players have the opportunity to come to an elite hockey program and get their degree before moving on in their hockey careers."
