MATT MACCARONE PLAYS IN THE NHL

NEW YORK – Forward Matt Maccarone of Whitby, Ont. suited up for the New York Rangers in a preseason match against the Boston Bruins on Tues., Sept. 16. In his first National Hockey League (NHL) game, Maccarone recorded two shots in nine minutes of play.

 

“I’m really happy for Matt,” said Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men’s hockey head coach Kelly Nobes. “It’s great to see him having success at this level and we want to wish him the best of luck.”

 

The six-foot-seven communications studies major played in 87 regular season games for the Golden Hawks, scoring 17 goals and 61 points in his four seasons. His point total puts him in 31st place on Laurier’s all-time scoring leaders list. More recently, Maccarone played 18 games for the Tulsa Oilers of the Central Hockey League before receiving his tryout with the Rangers.

 

Laurier has had three players make the NHL, the most recent being Eric Calder who played defence with the Washington Capitals from 1985 to 1988. Rob Whistle and Rob Dopson are the other two Hawks who have played in the NHL.
