The Badgers came on strong in a physical, penalty filled match. The Badgers, coming off an 8-0 loss to UOIT from the previous night, were looking to turn around a recent three game losing streak at home.
The Badgers opened the scoring 0:40 into the first period on an unassisted backhand goal by Gary Friesen (Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ont.) off of a Gryphons turnover. Steve Mullin (Guelph, Ont.) netted his sixth of the season to put Brock ahead by two goals.
In the second period, Edward Gale scored Guelph's only goal of the game on the power play. Brock tallied one more goal in the third period off of a rebound scored by Kyle McNeil (Cambridge, Ont.).
Penalty trouble seeming to be the Achilles' heel of the Brock Badgers, was again an issue against Guelph, whom went 1-for-9 on the power play. Brock went 0-for-3 when up a man, mustering their first power play shot on goal in the third period.
The aggressive play of Josh Schram (Paris, Ont.) caused a few Brock penalties, but also several Guelph turnovers leading to scoring chances. Friesen also played with emotion, scoring the early opening goal.
His assertive play later led to three third period penalties, forcing Brock goaltender Mark Yetman (Mount Pearl, Nfld.) to make some key shorthanded stops to solidify the win for Brock.
