MCGILL 4, NO. 3 UQTR 3, OT
MONTREAL, Que. – Leonard Verrilli (Dollard des Ormeaux, Que.) scored at 4:17 of overtime as McGill reeled off their fifth straight victory with a 4-3 upset over No.3-ranked UQTR in men's university hockey at McConnell Arena on Saturday.
Guillaume Doucet (Montreal, Que.) tallied twice to give the Redmen a 2-0 lead early in the middle period but the Patriotes roared back in the ensuing 10 minutes to tie the game at 2-2 on goals by Eric Beaudin (Laval, Que.) and Nicolas Caouette (St-Liboire, Que.).
Yan Turcotte, a defenceman from Laval, then connected on a power play to give McGill a 3-2 lead late in the middle period but the Pats rallied to tie the contest at 18:33 of the final stanza, on a goal by Etienne Bellavance-Martin (St-Jean-Chrysostome, Que.).
The Redmen, who were celebrating the 132nd anniversary of their first-ever game played in 1877, outshot UQTR 47-25. McGill, which improved their second-place standing in the OUA Far East to 15-7-2, have a return engagement at Trois-Rivieres on Feb. 6.

NO. 9 WESTERN 3, WINDSOR 2
LONDON, Ont. – In an exceptional goaltending battle, Mustang Keyvan Hunt (Coquitlam, B.C.) beat out Windsor Lancer Jim Watt (Edmonton, Ont.) in a 3-2 Western win at Thompson Arena on Jan. 31.
Windsor's Brett Vandehogen (Chatham, Ont.) capitalized on an unlucky two-on-one rebound to take an early lead. Western's determination could not be broken as Joe McCann (Essex, Ont.) fired a shot on Watt and linemate Jeff Martens (Maple Ridge, B.C.) was there to tap in the rebound.
The real battle began after Windsor scored a shorthanded goal to finish off the opening frame leading 2-1.
Western controlled the entire second period, but couldn't beat an acrobatic Watt. The Mustangs dominated with 26 shots and held Windsor to six.
But Watt stood strong in net and fought off the numerous scoring opportunities Western presented. Windsor came out determined after suffering an 8-0 loss the night before to Laurier.
The intensity of the game increased, as Western felt the pressure to make a crucial comeback. Aaron Snow (Windsor, Ont.) wasted no time; taking advantage of a power play, he ripped a shot from the side of the net that squeaked past Watt to tie the game.
Luc Martin (St. Thomas, Ont.) scored the questionable, game-winning goal late in the third period. A shot from teammate Kevin Baker (Georgetown, Ont.) deflected off Martin's body while he was being dragged down by a Lancer defender as he was skating hard to the net.
