OUA W-HOCKEY ROUNDUP: PERFECT 10 FOR GOLDEN HAWKS
The Golden Hawks opened the scoring just three minutes in as Lauren Barch (Burlington, Ont.) beat Katie Boyd for Laurier's first of the contest. The purple and gold would continue to pressure the Gaels in their own zone and first year Vanessa Schabkar (Etobicoke, Ont.) would pick up her first marker of the season. Laurier also killed off two penalties in this period while unable to capitalize on their two man-advantage opportunities.
The second period continued to see a steady stream of goals. Barch would again score just three minutes into the period, with an assist going to team captain Andrea Bevan (Collingwood, Ont.). The Gaels would finally get on the board as Victoria Kaufmann would beat Hawk goalie Liz Knox (Stouffville, Ont.) who shutout Queen's in their previous meeting. The goal was scored while the Gaels had a 5-on-3 advantage. The Golden Hawks would come back and score their next two goals from Bevan and Andrea Ironside (Collingwood, Ont.) on the power play.
The third period would see no scoring, but Queen's would make a change in net putting in Melissa John to replace Katie Boyd would had seen 32 shots over two periods of play. Laurier would also get into penalty trouble this period having four minor infractions.
The Gaels goalies would see a combined total of 42 shots in the loss with five goals against, while Hawk netminder Liz Knox faced 13 shots and allowed one goal.
There were a total of 17 infractions called in the rough and tumble match with the Golden Hawks scoring twice in eight opportunities while the visitors notched one marker in nine chances.

GUELPH 4, WINDSOR 1
GUELPH, Ont. - The Guelph Gryphons women's hockey team played a strong offensive game and executed fabulous goaltending to defeat the visiting Windsor Lancers 4-1 on Sunday afternoon at the Gryphon Centre. Guelph finished the weekend with two straight victories at home after shutting out Western 2-0 and advance to an overall record of 7-0-0-2 on the season, while the Lancers drop to 4-7-7-0.
The Guelph Gryphons continued their impressive weekend performance as soon as they stepped on to the ice. Merely three minutes into the game, Jessica Zerafa (Mississauga, Ont.) put the Gryphs up 1-0 on the second shot of the game.
A short time later, the Lancers would take a penalty that looked like no trouble, as they killed it off, but 20 seconds after the successful PK, Guelph buried the Lancer's hopes at going into the second down by only one. Tori Woods (Orangeville, Ont.) cut across the slot and fired a backhand at the net, which was stopped only to be picked up by teammate Brittney Roberts (Markdale, Ont.) and buried to widen the spread to 2-0. Guelph's solid defence was able to hold the Lancers to a mere three shots on goal in the first period.
The second period held an equally enthusiastic performance by the Gryphons women who were eager to go 2-0 on their weekend doubleheader. Several penalties were issued to both clubs, but there were no power play goals scored in the period. On a shorthanded attempt, a Lancer forward caught a breakaway chance, but was turned away as goalie Casandra McNichol flashed her pad to stop the shot.
This seemed to be Windor's only chance in the period to make a comeback, as the Lancers' shots were repeatedly denied and rarely opportunistic. Later in the period, the Gryphons made it clear they were here to win. Jackie Sollis (West Vancouver, B.C.) ripped a slap shot from the point, which was then tipped by Rose Harris (Colborne, Ont.) to confuse the Windsor goalie and take a commanding 3-0 lead. This was the score as the women left the ice for the second intermission.
The third period seemed to foreshadow a late third period comeback for the Lancers early on. Jodi Hodgins took an interference penalty, which gave the Lancers the advantage they so desperately needed to start their task ahead. With 10 seconds remaining in the penalty, Lancers forward Candace Rapchak (Stoney Point, Ont.) buried a one timer from Ashley Drouillard (Belle River, Ont.) to cut the Gryphon lead to two.
Though Windsor was able to accumulate more shots than the first two periods combined, frustration inevitably overcame the Lancer women and were caught on a tripping call late in the third. This power play led to the fourth and final Gryphon goal of the game, scored by Tamara Bell (Guelph, Ont.) to seal the game and effectively sweep the weekend with an impressive 6 goals for and only 1 against.

BROCK 4, YORK 3
ST. CATHARINES, Ont. – For the second time in as many days, the Brock women's hockey team (5-3-0-2) scored three goals in the third period to erase deficits. Down 3-1 heading into the third, the Badgers exploded with three goals to beat the Lions 4-3.
York opened the scoring on a power play 6:15 into the first as Chloe Milano scored her second goal of the regular season. Brock would tie the game at 1-1 with 2:35 left in the first as Michelle Lee scored her first of the season after a great pass from Emily Hooper.
York was the better team in the second, and it showed on the scoreboard. Milano scored her second of the game 5:10 into the second. Two minutes later, Mandy Cole would deliver a booming slap shot from the point on York's second power play of the game that would settle just under the crossbar and give York a two-goal lead.
Brock once again came out flying in the third period, just as they had the day before and once again immediate dividends were paid. Kelly Walker scored 4:19 into the frame to cut the York lead to only a goal. With less than seven minutes to play in the third Emily Hooper tied the game as she put a shot over the shoulder of an unsuspecting York goaltender. With a late face-off deep in the York zone, Walker scored with 6.7 seconds remaining to complete the comeback. Lee earned an assist on the final goal giving her three points in the game.

WATERLOO 5, UOIT 0
WATERLOO, Ont. - The Waterloo Warriors were back on the ice Sunday afternoon against the UOIT Ridgebacks. The Warriors scored early and often jumping out to a 3-0 lead just three minutes into the game and cruised to a 5-0 shutout to complete their undefeated weekend.
The Warriors exploded out of the gate scoring three times on their first five shots. The onslaught was too much for befuddled goaltender Carleigh Taggart to bare as she pulled herself following the third Warrior goal. Waterloo scored once more before the end of the period and took a safe 4-0 lead to the dressing room.
It was more of the same in the second period as the Warriors peppered 15 shots on the Ridgebacks net. Back-up goaltender Emma Thompson stood on her head, only allowing one Warrior goal in the frame to keep her team within five.
The Warriors focus turned to defence in the third and they were able to preserve the shut-out for their second year goaltender Erica Bridgewater (Georgetown, Ont.) who gave the Warriors an excellent weekend of work.
Goal scorers for the Warriors were Randi Lynn Wilson (Dublin, Ont.) with two, Kelly MacLean (St. George, Ont.), Mandy Harrop (Simcoe, Ont.), and Kaitlyn MacDonald (Creemore, Ont.).
