OUA W-HOCKEY ROUNDUP: SHUTOUT RULE THE DAY ON SUNDAY
Muirhead (pictured) opened the scoring for the Hawks just past the five-minute mark of the first period and scored again two minutes later to give the home team a 2-0 lead. Candace Kellough (Bolton, Ont.) extended the Hawks lead with the man-advantage with four minutes left in the frame, leaving the Warriors with a three-goal gap to close at the break.
The second period was all Laurier on the scoreboard, even though the shots in the period were a close 9-7 for the Hawks. Katherine Shirriff (Carrying Place, Ont.) opened the scoring and the goals just kept coming. Lauren Barch (Burlington, Ont.) potted her 12th goal of the season before Muirhead completed the hat trick. Heather Fortuna (Kitchener, Ont.) would score with just under two minutes left in the period to round out Laurier's four goals. The home team now held a seven-goal advantage on the visitors.
Andrea Ironside (Collingwood, Ont.) notched a goal just over five minutes into the final period of match to chase Erica Bridgewater (Georgetown, Ont.) from the net. Kahla Stern (Paris, Ont.) replaced her for the remainder of the game and stopped all 19 shots she faced.
Cindy Eadie (Brantford, Ont.) was in net for the Golden Hawks and picked up her third straight shutout, stopping all 19 shots faced. Bridgewater stopped 16 of the 24 shots she saw before she was replaced.
Laurier capitalized on one of five power play opportunities and killed all three short handed situations.

NO. 5 GUELPH 5, UOIT 0
GUELPH, Ont. - The Guelph Gryphons women's hockey team shut out the UOIT Ridgebacks 5-0.
Jessica Zerafa (Mississauga, Ont.) made her presence felt all over the ice, crashing into UOIT players, digging out loose pucks and notching two goals and an assist. Guelph goaltender Chelsey Roy (Bathhurst, N.B.) recorded the shutout.
In a scoreless first period, both teams exchanged scoring chances but were unable to find the back of the net. Despite not starting since Nov. 4, Roy looked sharp, turning away early scoring chances by the Ridgebacks.
Guelph took control of the game in the second period, scoring three goals to lead 3-0. Jackie Sollis (West Vancouver B.C.) walked in from the point and lifted a wrist shot over UOIT goaltender Carleigh Taggart (Bowmanville, Ont.) during a Guelph power play. Rookie Alex Mullin (Killaloe, Ont.) then banged home a rebound to record her first-ever OUA goal. With five minutes remaining in the second, Jennifer Rivers (York, Ont.) stepped out from behind the UOIT net and hit Zerafa right on the tape with a quick pass. Zerafa made no mistake and buried it to give Guelph the 3-0 advantage.
In the third, Guelph added to its lead. Tamara Bell (Guelph, Ont.) scored on a rebound chance and Zerafa squeezed one home after receiving a great cross-ice feed from Carla Dangelo (Hamilton, Ont.) on the point. Bell is now tied for first place in the OUA points-race with 24 points, and Zerafa is the OUA's leading goal scorer with 14 goals on the season.

NO. 8 TORONTO 3, WINDSOR 1
TORONTO, Ont. - The Toronto Varsity Blues women's hockey team got two power play goals in the first period, which proved to be all they needed as they defeated the visiting Windsor Lancers 3-1 on Sunday at Varsity Arena.
Blues second-year forward Karolina Urban (Kamloops, B.C.) open the scoring with her eighth goal of the season midway through the first period to give the home team the early lead.
With less than 30 seconds remaining in Toronto's fourth power play of the opening 20 minutes, forward Brenley Jorgensen (Kingston, Ont.) fed a pass to linemate Darby Smith (Madoc, Ont.) who buried what would be the eventually game-winner.
Manon Davis (Sudbury, Ont.) would get the Lancers back in game with less than five minutes to go in the second period when the winger beat Blues goalie Kendyl Valenta (Brampton, Ont.) for her fourth goal of the year.
At 13:42 of the final period, Jorgensen would collect her second point of the night and put this game away for Toronto when she beat Lancers goalie Jamie Tessier (Copper Cliff, Ont.), giving the Blues a two-goal lead they would not relinquish.

YORK 2, WESTERN 0
TORONTO, Ont. - The York Lions defeated the Western Mustangs 2-0 on Sunday. The Mustangs could not solve Lions' goaltender Sydney McMurter (Orillia, Ont.) as she recorded her first shutout of the season and the team's second.
York got all of its offence from Mandy Cole (North York, Ont.), who scored two goals in a 2:16 stretch near the end of the opening period. The first one came at the 17:00 mark of the period off a nice pass from Jennifer Halinen (Burlington, Ont.), and the second came shorthanded at the 19:16 mark of the period with excellent passes from Courtney Unruh (Fort St. John, B.C.) and defenceman Kelsey Webster (Duncan, B.C.) to set up the goal.
The Mustangs definitely put the heat on the Lions, outshooting them 39-34, but simply could not get the puck past McMurter. Mustangs goalie Jessica Ulrich (Keswick, Ont.) made 32 saves in a losing cause.
