NO. 10 LIONS WIN SIXTH IN A ROW IN WOMEN'S HOCKEY
The teams played to a scoreless draw after 20 minutes, with both teams having a number of chances to get the games first goal.
In the second period, York would find themselves of the positive end of a couple of bounces as they would score two wacky goals to take a 2-0 lead. The Lions would add one more goal before the end of the period on a 5-on-3 power play to go up 3-0, while outshooting UOIT 12-3.
Katie Grant (Oshawa, Ont.) would make the game interesting in the third period as she scored her first goal of the season at the 6:42 mark, but the Lions would add a late goal to skate away with the 4-1 victory. UOIT outshot York 13-10 in the third period while looking to climb back into the game.
Goalscorers for York included Kristie Wilson (Hamilton, Ont.), Mandy Cole (North York, Ont.), Samantha Solheim (Kelowna, B.C.) and Jennifer Halinen.
Final shots in the contest were 34-22 in favour of York. Both teams would end up 1-for-5 on the power play.
York improved to 13-10-0 on the year and extended their winning streak to six games. UOIT slipped to 3-19-0 this season and will look to rebound on Saturday afternoon on the road against the Brock Badgers. Puck drop in St. Catharines is at 3 p.m.
