OUA W-HOCKEY ROUNDUP: GOLDEN HAWKS ELIMINATE GAELS, BADGERS FORCE GAME 3
Lauren Barch (Burlington, Ont.) scored the game winner six-minutes and 35 seconds into the third overtime while the Hawks were on a two-man advantage.
"It was about time," commented Barch about the overtime winner. "Melissa John played a great game for Queen's but once I got the puck and saw she was down I switched to my forehand and put the puck in the net."
Hawk netminder Liz Knox (Stouffville, Ont.) faced 20 shots in the contest while her counterpart John saw 60 shots making some key saves in the game.
Heather Fortuna (Kitchener, Ont.) opened scoring for the purple-and-gold and then Kristin Smith responded just two minutes later to tie the game at 1-1.
Kaley Powers (Kingston, Ont.) scored her third of the post-season as she tied up the game at 2-2 early in the third frame. Queen's captain Cassandra Sparks put the Gaels ahead midway through the second as the only marker of the period. Sparks picked up the puck on a turnover and went in one-on-one and beat Knox.
"Queen's played us tough," stated Laurier head coach Rick Osborne on the 96 minute and 35 second game. "We needed a game like this to prepare us as we continue along through the playoffs."

BROCK 2, NO. 5 GUELPH 1
Best-of-three series tied 1-1
ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock Badgers women's hockey team earned a hard-fought 2-1 upset victory over the No. 5-ranked Guelph Gryphons in Game 2 of the OUA semi-finals on Saturday night at the Seymour-Hannah Sports Centre.
After the Gryphons took an early 1-0 lead courtesy of Sarah McClinchey (Brampton, Ont.), the Badgers controlled the play in the offensive zone for the remainder of the period, however, were unable to beat Gryphons goaltender Cassi McNichol (Unionville, Ont.).
In the first minute of the second period, regular-season leading scorer Kelly Walker (Brampton, Ont.) hustled to beat Gryphons defenseman before wrapping around the net and beat McNichol to tie the score.
Only minutes later, a total team effort led to a loose puck in the offensive zone which eventually ended up on the stick of Shannon McLeod (Port Dover, Ont.) who made no mistake in scoring her first goal of the post-season.
Goaltender Beth Clause (Hamilton, Ont.) was unbelievable between the pipes for the Badgers, recording 31 saves for her second playoff victory.
The Badgers recorded a record attendance for Brock women's hockey with 334 fans packing into the Seymour-Hannah Centre.
The Badgers will now travel to Guelph on Sunday for the third and deciding game of the series. Puck drop is 7:30 p.m.
