WESTERN MOVES UP IN NATIONAL FOOTBALL RANKINGS
Western (2-0), who was ranked No. 5 after defeating the Ottawa Gee-Gees 35-31 on home turf on Labour Day Monday, continued its OUA win streak with a 31-20 road win over the Laurier Golden Hawks on Saturday. The Mustangs have won nine straight games against OUA opponents.
The No. 5 Queen’s Gaels also climbed up the national rankings, and are right on Western’s tail. Queen’s (2-0) earned a hard-fought 41-30 road victory over the Guelph Gryphons on Saturday and moved up two spots from No. 7
The No. 6 Ottawa Gee-Gees (1-1) won in convincing fashion over the York Lions on the weekend, and also climb up two slots after a 71-3 win. Laurier (1-1) is the only OUA club to lose ground, dropping to No. 10 from 6 after its home loss to Western.
The only other OUA team to earn Top 10 votes was the Windsor Lancers (2-0), who have outscored its opposition 78-21 in their two games against York and the Toronto Varsity Blues.
The only meeting between Top 10 clubs this weekend will take place at Queen’s, as the Gaels host Laurier.
