OUA FOOTBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
OFFENCE: Luke Thompson, Laurier Golden Hawks, Quarterback
The second-year starting pivot accounted for five of the Laurier Golden Hawks' seven touchdowns, including three touchdown passes, one being a 101-yard completion. Thompson, a communications major, completed 17 of 27 for 355 yards as well as rushing for a team-high 76 yards and two majors in the victory as the Golden Hawks secured third place in OUA. The London, Ont. native is now seventh in the CIS in yards passing despite being sacked a nation-high 25 times. Laurier defeated the McMaster Marauders 50-31 to put their record at 5-2.
DEFENCE: Adrian Kaiser, Western Mustangs, Linebacker
The 6-foot-2, 220 lb. linebacker from London, Ont. had a stellar day for the Western Mustangs defence on Oct. 9, recording a game-high 10 tackles, two for losses, 1 sack and a forced fumble in Western's 56-15 win over the Windsor Lancers. The graduate of Catholic Central High School anchored Western's defence to three quarters of shutout football with the only points surrendered late in the game with many subs seeing action.
SPECIAL TEAMS: Jedd Gardner, Guelph Gryphons, Wide Receiver
Jedd Gardner, a second-year receiver from Niagara Falls, Ont. was instrumental in the Guelph Gryphons' 48-2 win over York on the weekend. He finished with an impressive 326 total yards in receiving, rushing and returning. He returned a missed field goal 128 yards for his first touchdown in the third quarter. The second-year receiver would put the icing on the Gryphon's cake with 5:18 left in the game when he fielded a York punt and raced up the right sideline 83 yards for his second special teams touchdown of the game. He also managed four catches for 85 yards.
