OTTAWA 39, TORONTO 30
OTTAWA, Ont. - Josh Sacobie (Fredericton, N.B.) came up short in the record book but a usual big for the Ottawa Gee-Gees.
The fifth-year quarterback took a hit to his throwing hand in the first half and overcame an early interception to finish with 122 yards passing with a fourth quarter touchdown pass in Saturday's 39-30 win over Toronto to secure a 17th consecutive playoff berth for injury-plagued Ottawa, which halted a three-game losing streak to finish the regular season 4-4.
Sacobie, with 9,885 career passing yards after 36 career regular season starts and 27 wins dating back to 2004, finishes third on the CIS all-time list - 89 yards short of tying the previous CIS and OUA all-time passing mark of 9,974 yards set by McMaster's Ben Chapdelaine in 2001.
The CIS all-time passing mark was surpassed by McGill's fifth-year quarterback Matt Connell, who threw for 345 yards Saturday in a home loss to Montreal for 10,201 career yards with one regular season game remaining.
Sacobie, who rushed four times for 52 yards, including a pair of one-yard touchdown plunges, was just 1-of-5 passing for seven yards in the first quarter before completed three straight passes to end the half six-for-14 for 82 yards with an interception.
Third-year Ottawa running back Davie Mason (Brampton, Ont.) had 12 carries for 113 yards and a 17-yard touchdown to open the fourth quarter and rookie Felix Desjardins-Potvin (Hull, Que.) rushed for 99 yards on 16 carries, scoring from five yards in the third quarter.
The Gee-Gees out-scored Toronto 29-7 in the second half.
Fifth-year Toronto quarterback David Hamilton (Mississauga, Ont.) threw for three scores and ran in a touchdown from 20 yards as the Varsity Blues, which kept four first-year starters out of the line-up for being absent for a Thanksgiving Monday practice, roared to a 23-10 advantage at the half.
Gee-Gees backup quarterback Brad Sinopoli (Peterborough, Ont.) caught four passes for 44 yards after being pressed into action the last two weeks due to a record 16 receivers downed by injury.

QUEEN'S 38, WATERLOO 22
WATERLOO, Ont. – Queen's secured a perfect regular season record on Saturday moving to an unblemished 8-0 with a 38-22 win over the Waterloo Warriors. The Gaels now have a week off in preparation for the OUA Semi-Final set for Nov. 1 in Kingston, Ont.
Dan Brannagan (Burlington, Ont.) threw for 342 yards and three touchdowns leading the Gaels while Scott Valberg (Kingston, Ont.) became the school's fourth receiver go over 1,000 receiving yards. Valberg finished the game with nine receptions, 142 yards and two touchdowns.
His effort earned him 1,013 receiving yards for the season which ranks him third on the school's all-time list in a single season. He is also only the 10th person in the CIS to go over 1,000 receiving yards in a single season.
The game opened with a hush for Queen's as Hec Crighton hopeful Mike Giffin (Kingston, Ont.) went down during the first play of the game with leg injury. Reports from the training staff indicate that the injury is minor and he will be re-evaluated later this week by team doctors.
Marty Gordon (Kingston, Ont.) and Jimmy Therrien (Montreal, Que.) combined to replace Giffin putting up solid numbers. Gordon was the Gaels' leading rusher notching 10 attempts for 103 yards and scoring once. Therrien posted 74 yards and a touchdown.
This is the eighth time the Gaels have recorded a perfect regular season record since starting its program in 1882. Queen's undefeated regular seasons came in 1923 (4-0), 1924 (4-0), 1925 (4-0), 1963 (6-0), 1964 (6-0), 1978 (6-0) and 1989 (7-0).
The 2008 edition of the Gaels are the first-ever to record eight victories in a single season. Prior to 1995, the Gaels never played eight games in the regular season and in that time frame Queen's registered seven wins twice (2002 7-1 and 2003 7-1).

WESTERN 47, GUELPH 16
LONDON, Ont. - The Western Mustangs matched history by defeating the Guelph Gryphons 47-16 in a regular season rematch of the 2007 Yates Cup Championship on Oct. 18 in front of 3,806 at TD Waterhouse Stadium.
Nathan Riva (LaSalle, Ont.), a former OFSAA track star, raced for 101 yards and one touchdown. He also caught six passes for 44 yards and a touchdown, giving him nine touchdowns on the season despite only starting three games.
Meanwhile, fourth-year quarterback Michael Faulds (Eden Mills, Ont.) went 25 of 37 passing for 415 yards and four touchdowns, setting regular season career highs of 2,596 yards and 19 touchdowns. His performance this season ranks a CIS fifth all-time, fitting slightly behind the mark set by Mustang great Chris Hessel in the 2002 season.
He was like a general leading his army to victory on the weekend. He steadied his team after Guelph opened the scoring leading them to a 28-16 lead at the half.
The Western defence took over in the second half, keeping the Gryphons off the scoreboard.
Faulds was helped by a stunning performance from Jesse Bellamy (Guelph, Ont.) who caught eight passes for 211 yards and three touchdowns. It was his first multiple-touchdown game of the season.
He remains the Mustangs' leading receiver this year with a total of 686 yards and six touchdowns.
After several inconclusive series to open up the first quarter, Faulds was intercepted by Guelph defensive back Jordan Duncan (Grimsby, Ont.) who returned the pick 18 yards to Western's 30. However, a stern effort by Western's defence and a sack by sophomore linebacker John Surla (Niagara Falls, Ont.) forced Guelph to settle for a field goal.
Western's offence would finally make its mark with 6:00 remaining in the first, as a 37-yard floater from Faulds to Bellamy would put the Mustangs up 7-3.
Not to be outshined, Western's defence responded with an interception by senior defensive back Corey McNair (London, Ont.). He returned it seven yards to Guelph's one-yard line, however a crushing hit by a Guelph defender forced a fumble. The loose ball was recovered by defensive tackle Vaughn Martin (London, Ont.) in the end zone to put Western up 14-3.
A potential Guelph comeback in the second quarter began with a 71-yard pass from quarterback Justin Dunk (Guelph, Ont.) to receiver Dave Harrison (Waterdown, Ont.). But a touchdown was saved by Mustang defensive back Craig Butler (London, Ont.) who sprinted to catch the Gryphons receiver and make a key tackle.
Guelph's offence was then marched back 15 yards due to an unnecessary roughness penalty. It was one of 23 penalties on both teams throughout the day.
Guelph scored on a field goal to make it 14-6 for the Mustangs.
The Gryphons' offence took over following a Western turnover on downs on their own 39-yard line. Needing to erase an eight-point deficit, Harrison produced an amazing 74-yard reception getting in behind a Western defender.
He was stopped at the Western one-yard line by fifth-year linebacker Jonathan Hood (Mississauga, Ont.). Guelph punched the ball into the end zone on a touchdown run by Nick FitzGibbon (Puslinch, Ont.) with 5:52 remaining in the second to make it 14-13 Western. It was a close as Guelph would come.
Western responded with a four play, 87-yard drive that took just over a minute to complete. It was capped off by a 10-yard touchdown rush by Riva who demonstrated his game-breaking speed, beating Guelph to the corner of the end zone.
Another successful field goal by Rob Maver (Brampton, Ont.) looked like it would cap off the half, as they made the score 21-16 for the Mustangs; however, on their final drive of the second quarter, Faulds found Bellamy in the end zone once more for a 40-yard touchdown pass with just 14.4 seconds left on the clock.
The teams went to the locker rooms at half-time with a very close 28-16 lead for Western.
On the second play of the third quarter, Western took control as Dunk was picked off by Surla, who returned it 15 yards to the Guelph 19-yard line.
On his first possession of the second half, Faulds dropped back and found Riva in the end zone for a 19-yard touchdown pass.
Western took a 35-16 lead and never looked back.

LAURIER 50, YORK 13
TORONTO, Ont. - The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks easily handed the winless York Lions a 50-13 defeat at York Stadium in front of a crowd largely made up of purple-and-gold fans.
In what was the only meaningless game in Week 8 of provincial football action, the Hawks saw 115 yards of penalties over 14 calls. York had nine for 105 yards.
York broke two OUA records today with the completion of their winless regular season having the most points scored against them in a season (471) and fewest points scored in a season (32).
The win ended the Golden Hawk record at 6-2 after opening the year with a win and then two losses.
Five of the six touchdown markers in the contest were thrown in the air. Luke Thompson (London, Ont.) completed 10 of 17 for 185 yards and three majors in the first half of play before Ian Noble (West Vancouver, B.C.) relieved him with 198 yards and two additional touchdowns.
B.J. Malott (Kitchener, Ont.), Shamawd Chambers (Markham, Ont.), Josh Bishop (Mississauga, Ont.), Troy Leach (Barrie, Ont.) and Travis Vaughan (Almonte, Ont.) were the recipients of the passes while linebacker Daniel Bishop (Mississauga, Ont.) returned an attempted punt 40 yards into the end zone.
The Golden Hawks opened scoring five minutes into the contest on a 45-yard pass to Malott and didn't look back from there.
Kicker Chris Mamo (London, Ont.) had another strong performance punting four times for 197 yards including a 60-yard boot. He converted all six converts as well as nailed both 35 and 37 field goals.
Mamo now sits third all-time in the record books in punting yardage in a career with 2,718 yards. He's second in number of punts in a career with 213.
The defensive game saw York accumulate 234 yards to Laurier's 519. Scott McCahill (Kingston, Ont.) led the team with five solo tackles. Courtney Stephen (Brampton, Ont.) had an interception off of York veteran quarterback Bart Zemanek (Toronto, Ont.) who finished his career with a 14 for 34 and 183-yard performance.
