OUA FOOTBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
OFFENCE: Michael Faulds, Western Mustangs, Quarterback
Michael Faulds (Eden Mills, Ont.) led his team to 551 yards of total offence, going 20 of 35 passing for 355 yards along with a touchdown, and running the ball six times for 54 yards in Western's OUA semi-final win over Wilfrid Laurier. The CIS's top passer in the regular season, Faulds continued where he left off, marching the team to 29 first downs in the game.
DEFENCE: Josh Foster, Western Mustangs, Defensive Back
With a pair of crucial interceptions and a break up late in the fourth quarter to prevent a late Laurier drive, Josh Foster (London, Ont.) was a major factor in Western's 36-28 win over Laurier in the OUA semi-final on Nov. 1 at TD Waterhouse Stadium. Foster, who was also named The Score's player of the game, transferred from McMaster and has made immediate impact with the Mustangs. Aspiring to be a school teacher, he taught Laurier's starting quarterback and fellow Londoner Luke Thompson a valuable lesson about testing him as he stepped in front of the receiver on both interceptions.
SPECIAL TEAMS: Darryl Wheeler, Western Mustangs, Kicker/Punter
Going 6 for 6 on field goals including a career-long 38 yarder, Darryl Wheeler (Hamilton, Ont.) scored 20 of Western's 36 points in a 36-28 win over Wilfrid Laurier in the OUA semi-final on Nov. 1 at TD Waterhouse Stadium. Wheeler tied a CIS record for field goals in a playoff game and set an OUA record with six. The CIS record was set in 1992 by Calgary kicker Bruce Parsons and tied by Manitoba's Scott Dixon in 2007. He also punted the ball nine times for 355 yards, averaging 39.4 yards per punt and pinning the Golden Hawks inside their own 20-yard line three times.
