PLAYOFF SHOWDOWN ON UNIVERSITY RUSH
This will be Windsor’s first appearance on University Rush in 2008. At the beginning of the season Windsor looked like the team to beat starting 2-0 over York (40-7) and Toronto (38-14).
Reality set in against Guelph on Lancer Homecoming with a rainy 34-8 loss. A silver lining on the day was Lancer star running back Daryl Stephenson (London, Ont.) making history as he became Canadian university football’s new all-time rushing leader. Stephenson recently became the first player to break the 5,000-yard rushing barrier as he enters the twilight of his illustrious CIS career.
The Lancers have fallen to Laurier (33-18) and rival Western (58-5), but upset CIS record chaser Josh Sacobie (Fredericton, N.B.) and his Ottawa Gee-Gees 40-38.
Windsor comes into this match-up off a 30-29 upset handed to them by the Waterloo Warriors, who have already been eliminated from the playoffs.
Fifth-year senior Glenn MacKay (Burlington, Ont.) sparked the Lancer offence returning a Waterloo punt 83 yards into the end zone for a touchdown.
The Lancers second and last touchdown would come off a six-yard bolt from former Hec Creighton winner Stephenson, who ended the game with 136 yards on the ground.
Kicker Robert Eeuwes (Burlington, Ont.) added five field goals between the uprights and made good on both of his convert attempts in the second quarter.
Defensively, Shea Pierre (Mississauga, Ont.) and John Celestino (Windsor, Ont.) dominated for the Lancers nabbing six and seven solo tackles respectively.
The Lancers could not hold onto their commanding 22-point first half lead, getting out scored 29-6 in the second half.

The McMaster Marauders started the season on the wrong side of the scale, dropping the first three games of the season to Queen’s (35-11), Waterloo (30-17), and Ottawa (22-19) in a University Rush game televised on The Score.
McMaster is no stranger to the airwaves. In their second University Rush appearance of the season against Guelph, the Marauders claimed their first win narrowly passing the Gryphons 32-31. The other wins of the season have come against York (53-0) and Toronto (27-19).
Like the Lancers, McMaster is coming into this ‘must win’ off a loss. The Laurier Golden Hawks took last Saturday’s decision 50-31 over the Marauders, to secure third place in OUA.
Quarterback Ryan Fantham (London, Ont.) controlled the scoring game for McMaster completing 33 passes for 497 yards including four touchdowns. His total places him second in McMaster recorded history in single game passing yardage.
Fantham's primary target was Kevin D’Hollander (London, Ont.) who had a tremendous game hauling in 12 receptions for 199 yards and two touchdowns. Andrew Ross (Burlington, Ont.) and Mike Bradwell (Toronto, Ont.) were the other major scorers, each connecting with Fantham for a touchdown.
Andy Waugh (Perth, Ont.) was a strong scoring boot for McMaster adding two converts and putting a 17-yard field goal between the pipes in the second quarter.
McMaster's Simon Binder (Almonte, Ont.) had four solo tackles for the Marauders. Elliot Hudecki (Hamilton, Ont.) added two solo tackles, 1.5 sacks and a breakup.
Going head-to-head since 1971, McMaster has outdone Windsor 20-13. The Lancers have come up short, losing to the Marauders in every match up since their 37-0 blowout of McMaster in 1996.
The OUA football season comes down to one final weekend, as eight teams remain in the hunt for six playoff spots. Teams still fighting for post-season berth or positioning include McMaster, Windsor, the Guelph Gryphons, Ottawa Gee-Gees and Toronto Varsity Blues.
