LADY VEES SOCCER SWATS STINGERS
The Lady Vees opened the scoring in the first half after a free kick from Corrine Kandravy (Longveil, Que.) went off the cross bar right back to Watson (Newmarket, Ont.) who delivered the ball into the corner of the net, for a one goal lead. Watson, a rookie striker, was not done there, she set-up Laurentian’s second goal by taking on a defender, then pulling the ball back into the middle where Corelli (Sudbury, Ont.) was waiting in excellent position and put a low shot into the corner of the net, giving the Laurentian women a two goal lead. This was all thy would need as goalkeepers Hoffberg (Brampton, Ont.) and Kulczycki (London, Ont.) shut the door on any scoring chance generated by Concordia.
The Lady Vees played a solid team game and exhibited a strong defensive effort that the Laurentian women’s program has become known for over the years, as they came away with the 2-0 victory over the Stingers.
“We are quite pleased with the team’s performance” said head coach Rob Gallo. “The veterans and rookies are gelling well together and are showing some growth. We are looking forward to the next week of training as we head into our first league game on September 2nd.”
The Lady Vees will now spend the next week training in preparation for their OUA regular season home opener against their rival from Northern Ontario the Nipissing Lakers on Tuesday, September 2nd . Game time will be at 2 p.m. at the Laurentian Soccer Fields.
