OUA W-SOCCER ROUNDUP
In the 36th minute Tessa Dimitrakopoulos (Richmond Hill, Ont.) netted her team-leading fifth goal of the season to give the Rams a lead that they would not relinquish. The goal was set up beautifully by Ryerson forward Ashlie Marchese (Mississauga, Ont.) who used some nice moves to get around two Carleton defenders and feed Dimitrakopoulos.
Before the Dimitrakopoulos goal, Carleton controlled the pace of the game, but the Rams defenders and goalkeeper Misha Maric (Toronto, Ont.) kept the Ravens from finding the back of the net. Jennifer Crichton (Manotick, Ont.) and Hillary Peirce (Ottawa, Ont.) came close to giving the Ravens the lead but their shots both sailed wide. Natalie Griffith (Ottawa, Ont.) also had a nice chance for Carleton off a corner kick but her header was stopped by Maric.
Maric had an excellent game with a handful of highlight reel saves including two consecutive stops off a Carleton corner kick. Maric also robbed Raven forward Shayla LaVecchia (Ottawa, Ont.) who had a point blank shot from the top of the Ryerson crease.
While Carleton controlled the game for the better part of the first half, it was mostly Ryerson in the second. Building off the momentum from their goal, the Rams had a number of other good chances to add an insurance marker. Andrea Demianiw (Etobicoke, Ont.) opened the second half with a nice shot that just missed wide. Dimitrakopoulos also had two more chances to net her second goal of the game but couldn't beat Ravens keeper Katherine Shaughnessy (Ottawa, Ont.) a second time. Andrea Raso (Toronto, Ont.) also came close to scoring when her shot sailed high, topping off a strong performance for her.
Rams Head Coach Peyvand Mossavat said that it was a great win for his team, noting that after the goal, Ryerson really took control of the game.
"After the goal we kind of settled down," said Mossavat. "The passing game got better and it was a confidence boost. In the second half we took control of the game."

LAURENTIAN 1, QUEEN'S 0
KINGSTON, Ont. - The Laurentian Lady Vees soccer team made it a clean sweep in Kingston on Sunday, as they defeated the Queen's Gaels in a tight 1-0 match. Rookie forward Lisa Watson (Newmarket, Ont.) notched her second goal in as many games for the Vees, while veteran Meghan Hoffberg (Brampton, Ont.) recorded the shutout.
In a playoff like atmosphere at Richardson Stadium, the two sides battled hard, each looking to net the all important first tally and swing the tide in their favour. Ultimately it was the rookie Watson who broke the tie in the 16th minute, silencing the boisterous crowd while giving the Lady Vees the lead and a surge of momentum which they would carry through to the end of the half.
The second half saw more of the same solid play from both teams, with the hometown Gaels seeking to claw their way back, while the Lady Vees looked to hang on and close the deal. The Laurentian women did an excellent job of sharing the ball and creating opportunities on the offensive end while the defensive tandem of veterans Erica Duczeminski (Sudbury, Ont.) and Samantha Falcioni (Sudbury, Ont.), and strong play from goalkeeper Hoffberg kept the Gaels off the score sheet, leaving the Lady Vees with their first ever win at Richardson Stadium.
"The girls played a really good game of soccer today, and they're fun to watch," said head coach, Rob Gallo. "This was a really enjoyable weekend, especially with both the men and women winning, and coming home with 12 points."

PETERBOROUGH, Ont. - The Ottawa Gee-Gees women's soccer team unleashed an all-time high 42 shots Sunday afternoon but managed to score just once in a 1-0 shutout road win at Trent.

Trent rookie goalkeeper Melissa Waresa stood tall throughout the onslaught of offence.
"That's a lot of shots," said Gee-Gees head coach Steve Johnson, who founded the uOttawa women's soccer program in 1994 and confirmed the team record. "Their 'keeper was good."
In total, 20 of the Gee-Gees shots were on target and 22 were off-target. The shot total does not include blocked shots, of which there were many, Johnson said.

QUEEN'S 2, OTTAWA 0
KINGSTON, Ont. - The Queen's Gaels offensive pressure and goaltending prowess were the keys to victory as the Queen's defeated the number No. 5 nationally ranked Ottawa Gee Gees 2-0.
Queen's first goal came in the 52nd minute on a free kick by Katie Dalziel (Stoney Creek, Ont.) who put the ball up and over the line of defenders sneaking it under the cross bar. The Gaels then went up 2-0 on a rebound goal in the 67th minute by Renee MacLellan (Kingston, Ont.).
Katie McKenna (Oakville, Ont.) pitched the shutout for Queen's making several key saves including one on Elise Desjardins (Cumberland, Ont.). Desjardins had a clear shot on net with no Queen's defenders around and McKenna stretched out knocking the ball out of play. She then stopped another Ottawa attacker Trinidad Ruiz (Stittsville, Ont.) who had a clear shot on net in close range.
With five saves, McKenna recorded her second straight shutout and her third of the season in just six games.

Before halftime the Varsity Blues increased their lead to 2-0 with an impressive header from a cross past Carleton goalkeeper Katherine Shaughnessy (Ottawa, Ont.). LAURENTIAN 4, RMC 0
KINGSTON Ont. - The Laurentian Lady Vees soccer team invaded RMC Saturday afternoon, seeking three points, to begin the charge to the top of the OUA East Standings. They dominated the Paladins, winning 4-0, on goals by rookies Lisa Watson and Dayna Corelli, and veterans Jenna Roach and Erica Duczeminski. Lady Vees goalie Victoria Kulczycki recorded her first career OUA Win and shutout for the Lady Vees.
The Lady Vees came out roaring in the starting minutes. Duczeminski (Sudbury, Ont.) scored the opening goal three minutes into the match. The Lady Vees controlled the pace of the game and used some great ball movement to create further chances. In the 12th minute, Corelli (Sudbury, Ont.) scored to increase the lead to 2-0. The Lady Vees continued to march forwards, but could not capitalize, resulting in a 2-0 halftime score.
The second half was similar to the first, as the Lady Vees once again came out of the gate looking to take charge, and quickly abolish any hope for a comeback by the Paladins. Watson (Newmarket, Ont.) played her part by scoring the third goal of the game, just minutes after the ball started rolling again. The balanced attack of the Lady Vees continued to create chances and proved to be too much for RMC to handle on this day. Laurentian added one more as Roach (Sudbury, Ont.) finished off an attack to meet the end result of 4-0. Kulczycki (London, Ont.) played a solid game in nets registering the win and shutout for the Lady Vees in her first OUA Start.
"We are very happy with today's effort. The balanced attack is a positive sign that we are moving in the right direction," said Lady Vees head coach Rob Gallo.
