OUA W-SOCCER ROUNDUP: GEE-GEES WIN CAPITAL BATTLE
The Gee-Gees improved to 23-0-7 all-time against the Ravens after Sara Bullock (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.) scored in the 26th minute and Courtney Luscombe (Ottawa, Ont.) tapped in her fifth of the season off a penalty kick rebound in the 44th.
The Ravens opened the scoring when fourth-year midfielder Jennifer Crichton (Manotick, Ont.) beat second-year goalkeeper Jess Charron (Ottawa, Ont.) for a long goal in the 23rd.
"That goal woke us up," said Gee-Gees coach Steve Johnson.
"We knew we needed this win to place second," said Bullock. "This was huge for us."
Charron stopped four shots in her first season returning to university soccer following a year-long break, and first year as a Gee-Gees starter.
"My heart is still pumping a mile a minute," said Charron. "It's over. It's done. Thank God."
"I have helped uphold the rivalry... that means so much to me, because I never really had the chance to prove it before."
Ottawa, seeking a seventh berth at the CIS tournament in eight years, finished the regular season 9-2-3. The full conference schedule ends Sunday.
The Gee-Gees will likely host an OUA quarter-final game Sat., Oct. 25.

LAURENTIAN 4, NIPISSING 1
NORTH BAY, Ont. - The Laurentian Lady Vees defeated the Nipissing Lakers 4-1 on Wednesday night in women's soccer. The win allowed the Lady Vees to a clinch a playoff spot. Rookie Leanne Adams scored her first ever OUA goal and Jenna Roach was able to score three consecutive goals netting a natural hat trick.
The first half started off in Nipissing's favour as they were able to control the first 30 minutes leading to the first goal of the game scored by Stephanie Stubbert (North Bay, Ont.). Towards the end of the half, Krista Pantin (Mississauga, Ont.) had a couple glorious opportunities but could not convert. One of these opportunities involved a pass made to Adams (Mississauga, Ont.) who was able to net her first goal of the season, which led to a 1-1 draw at halftime.
The second half was all Lady Vees with Roach (Sudbury, Ont.) able to beat the Lakers keeper to net two goals in the first eight minutes of play in the final frame. Later on in the half Roach was also able to score her third goal of the game, which gave her a natural hat trick. The Lady Vees did what they had to in order to win the game, finishing with a 4-1 win.
"I'm really pleased with how the seniors played. Jenna showed lots of maturity in Lisa Watson's absence," said Lady Vees head coach Rob Gallo.
The Lady Vees must carry their momentum into Saturday's game against the Carleton Ravens. The game is set for Sat., Oct. 18 at 2 p.m. on the Laurentian Soccer Field.
