GEE-GEES SOCCER DEFENDER EARNS CANADIAN U-20 TRYOUT
Robinson will be among 24 hopefuls – including three current CIS student-athletes - at the Sept. 2-10 camp in Vancouver looking to secure one of 20 spots for a Four Nations tournament shortly thereafter in Chile.
A defender who would be in her third season with the Gee-Gees, Robinson could play for the Canadians at the U-20 Women's World Cup Chile 2008 (November 19 to December 7). Her status with uOttawa is uncertain pending the try-out.
A 20-year-old native of Fredericton, Robinson earned 2007 OUA East MVP, CIS first-team all-Canadian, and Gee-Gees team MVP honours after scoring seven free-kick goals and helping the Gee-Gees secure a sixth berth at the national tournament in seven seasons.
"This is an opportunity I have been waiting for since I was 14 years old," said Robinson, who spent the last two summers with the W-League Laval Comets.
"But I am sad to leave my Gee-Gees teammates - especially because they will be playing Carleton."
Robinson will miss the Gee-Gees (1-0) home date Wednesday (7 p.m. at the Sports Complex) against city rival Carleton University (0-0).
The Gee-Gees, ranked No. 7 in the first CIS Top-Ten of the season, have not lost to unranked Carleton in uOttawa's 14-season history, entering Wednesday's match with a 22-0-6 lifetime regular season record.
