OTTAWA 2, LAURENTIAN 1
OTTAWA, Ont. - Fourth-year midfielder Catherine Scott scored twice in a physical free-for-all Saturday as the Ottawa Gee-Gees defeated Laurentian 2-1 at the Sports Complex.
"We sometimes get pushed over but today that wasn't the case," said Scott, a Kirkland, Que., native and law school student who scored off two of her three shots in the 44th and 64th. "We wanted it, and it shows in the score."
There were several stoppages throughout the game as the larger Lady Vees asserted a noticeable size advantage. The Gee-Gees out-shot Laurentian 8-5 and had five corners to none. Sam Falcioni (Sudbury, Ont.) replied for the Lady Vees in the 65th.
"Lots of fouls on both teams," said injured Ottawa third-year striker Trinidad Ruiz (Stittsville, Ont.), who hopped off in the 88th favouring her left ankle after stepping on a player. "Nothing is broken – I'll be fine."

RYERSON 3, RMC 1
TORONTO, Ont. - Tessa Dimitrakopoulos scored her sixth and seventh goal of the season to lead the Ryerson Rams women's soccer team to a 3-1 win over the RMC Paladins Saturday afternoon at Lamport Stadium. Andrea Raso added the third goal for the Rams.
Dimitrakopoulos (Richmond Hill, Ont.), who sits second in OUA and CIS scoring, had more than a handful of chances over the course of the game. She scored her first goal early in the first half when she found the ball in the Paladins crease off a Ryerson free kick.
Dimitrakopoulos added her second goal shortly after when she fired a shot past the RMC goalkeeper off of a feed from Ryerson midfielder Caroline Forsyth (Vancouver, B.C.).
The Rams controlled the pace of the game in the first half and had a couple of chances to increase their lead. Along with Dimitrakopoulos' several chances, Suzanne Briggs (Keswick, Ont.) had two chances that were stopped by Erica Pessotto (Milton, Ont.) for the Paladins.
RMC came out with a little second half pressure and had a couple chances early that were stopped by Rams keeper Michelle Smiciklas (Oakville, Ont.), who took over for Misha Maric who played the first half.
Ryerson used an excellent passing game to retake the momentum back from the Paladins. Raso (Toronto, Ont.) scored Ryerson's third goal after collecting the ball in the Paladins penalty box and finding the back of the net.
The Rams had a number of other chances to increase the lead but Pessotto came up big with a number of good saves, including a highlight reel punch save off a Dimitrakopoulos free kick.
RMC had a couple of chances late including a Samantha Beckett (Coquitlam, B.C.) free kick that rang off the crossbar.
Smiciklas came up with a couple more saves before Victoria Clouthier (Arnprior, Ont.) finally found the back of the net for the Paladins late in the game. The RMC goal was too little too late as Ryerson controlled the rest of the game for the 3-1 win.

CARLETON 1, LAURENTIAN 0
OTTAWA, Ont. - The Carleton Ravens women's soccer team earned a 1-0 win over Laurentian University's Lady Vees at Ravens' Field in OUA East soccer action.
The Ravens started the game by pressuring the Lady Vees in their own end to create several early scoring opportunities. The first chance came in the 13th minute when Carleton was awarded a free kick at the top of the box. Hilary Peirce (Ottawa, Ont.) fired a shot just over the crossbar as the Ravens continued to threaten.
Alexandra Skupek (Ottawa, Ont.) nearly put one away from a Shayla LaVecchia (Ottawa, Ont.) cross but Laurentian goalkeeper Meghan Hoffberg (Brampton, Ont.) denied the goal. On the ensuing corner kick, Amanda Ngwafusi (Ottawa, Ont.) calmly scored her third goal of the season to put the home side Ravens up by one. Raven goalkeeper Tanya Marshall (Ottawa, Ont.) made several key saves in the opening half to keep a clean sheet for Carleton.
In the second half Laurentian did not look as dangerous offensively as Carleton continued to dictate play, creating dangerous chances in the opposing third of the field. In a two minute spell late in the game, LaVecchia took three shots on goal in what might have been Carleton's best opportunity to go up by two goals. However, Lady Vee goalkeeper Hoffberg was there to make the save to keep the gap at one goal.
Raven goalkeeper Marshall had a great performance in goal, making six saves on the day to earn her first shutout of the 2008 season.
