OUA W-SOCCER ROUNDUP: OPENING ROUND
Laurier’s Ali McKee (Bracebridge, Ont.) opened the scoring for the Golden Hawks early in the first half. The goal opened up the game as Waterloo was playing defensively. The Warriors got their chance when Tara Chadwick (Stratford, Ont.) got the ball down the sideline and went to the net. She scored just midway through the first half to tie the game.
Laurier continued to carry the play and spend most of the time inside the Warriors zone. The match was tied until midway through the second when Fewster-Yan headed a cross past Catherine Vanderburgh (Waterloo, Ont.) and into the back of the net. Fewster-Yan scored another goal later on in the second to seal the victory for the Hawks.
“It was a dominating performance and a deserving win,“ said head coach Barry MacLean. “Jen did very well for us.”
The Golden Hawks out shot the visiting Warriors 10-3 with Vanderburgh making eight saves in the loss and Mal Woeller (Kinburn, Ont.) saving two for the win.
Laurier will now travel to Ron Joyce Stadium on Sat., Oct. 25 to take on the McMaster Marauders at 1:15 p.m.

CARLETON 2, LAURENTIAN 1, PK
SUDBURY, Ont. - The Carleton Ravens women's soccer team defeated the Laurentian Voyageurs 2-1, needing penalty kicks to advance to the 2008 OUA quarter-finals.
The Ravens came out strong and controlled the match from the opening whistle. After several good scoring opportunities veteran midfielder Aisha Stinson (Ottawa, Ont.) scored the game's first goal at the 30th minute giving the visiting Ravens the halftime lead.
In the second half, Carleton continued to put pressure on the Voyageurs, but a penalty shot called against Carleton 20 minutes into the half. Samantha Falcioni (Sudbury, Ont.) scored and tied the game 1-1.
The match remained tied through two 15 minute overtime periods and was settled in penalty kicks as Stinson and Amanda Ngwafusi (Ottawa, Ont.) each scored and rookie goalkeeper Erin Klimas (Russell, Ont.) stopped all three shots she faced to earn her first OUA post-season victory in the Birds' net.
The Ravens will travel to "Hogtown" to face the Toronto Varsity Blues, on Sun., Oct. 26 at Varsity Centre.

QUEEN'S 2, NIPISSING 0
KINGSTON, Ont. - Brienna Shaw (Vancouver, B.C. scored just six minutes into the game to give the Gaels the eventual victory as Queen's defeated Nipissing 2-0 in the opening round of the OUA women's soccer playoffs.
Kate McKenna (Oakville, Ont.) stopped all six shots she faced including four in the second half. Entering today's match-up McKenna was ranked as one of the nation's top goalies having recorded a CIS leading seven shutouts.
Queen's sealed the win in injury time during the second half when Jennifer Hutchinson (St. John's Nfld.), took a feed from Renee MacLellan (Kingston, Ont.) to close the scoring at 2-0.
Forward Kelli Chamberlain (North Bay, Ont.) continued her solid season by posting two break-a-away chances with one of her attempt hitting the post in the first half. Chamberlain recorded four shots and an assist in the contest, but was not able to get any past Nipissing's Samantha Behm (Winchester, Ont.).
The fourth seeded Gaels travel to second seeded Ottawa on Sat., Oct. 25 to take on the Gee-Gees in one of the OUA quarter-final match-ups scheduled. Ottawa is the No. 6-ranked team in the country and the Gaels split their season series against the Gee-Gees 1-1. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.

BROCK 1, WESTERN 0
ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock Badgers women's soccer team defeated the Western Mustangs by the score of 1-0 at home Wednesday afternoon to advance to the OUA West Division semi-finals this Saturday.
Freshman Alex Esposito (Mississauga, Ont.), who came of the bench late in the game, scored her third goal of the season in the 77th minute for the victory.
For Brock senior goalkeeper Tiffany Scriver (Burlington, Ont.) it was her third shutout versus the Mustangs this season and 30th of her university career.
In three games versus Western in 2008, the Badgers outscored the Mustangs 7-0.
