RAVENS DEFEAT MARTLETS IN NON-CONFERENCE WOMEN'S SOCCER
OTTAWA, Ont - The Carleton University Ravens came out strong in their second non-conference preseason women’s soccer match scoring two early goals and playing strong defence to shutout their Quebec opponents the McGill University Martlets, 2-0. The Ravens preseason record now stands at 1-1-0 with 2 non-conference matches remaining, this weekend, in Teaneck, New Jersey against Fairleigh Dickinson University.
The Ravens played extremely well in the first half winning every free ball and controlling the play as they opened the scoring at the 12 minute mark on a goal by veteran OUA All-Star, Aisha Stinson, (Ottawa). The goal spurred Carleton onto continue to keep control of the match and scored at the 30th minute on Sam Sauvé’s (Ottawa) second preseason goal of the 2008 season.
Rookie goalkeeper, Erin Klimas, (Russell) earned her first CIS shutout victory in nets for Carleton. The first year Psychology major made several key saves including knocking a ball off the cross bar in the second half to preserve the shutout.
The Martlets split their goalkeeping duties between rookie Shimone Slomowitz, (West Vancouver, BC) and Anne-Catherine Huot (Quebec City, Qc). Slomowitz played the first half giving up the two Raven goals.
