VOYAGEURS HOOPSTERS HEAD OUT EAST FOR SECOND HALF TUNE UP
The Voyageurs first travelled to Cape Breton, N.S. for a pair of exhibition games against Cape Breton University and the University of P.E.I. In their first matchup against Cape Breton, the Voyageurs would get scoring from Manny Pasquale of Victoria, B.C. who led Laurentian with 16 points, while David Otterbein of London, Ont. sunk 15 points of his own. This would not be enough as Cape Breton would edge the Voyageurs by a final score of 95-80. The University of P.E.I. was next on the radar for Laurentian as they bounced back, going on to win a nail biter 80-78.
Lastly, the Voyageurs travelled to Halifax to compete in the Rod Shoveller Memorial Basketball Tournament. The Voyageurs would first tip off against the Dalhousie Tigers in a very tough matchup. Manny Pasquale would lead all Voyageurs with 17 points and four assists, while Isiah Pasquale of Victoria, B.C. chipped in with 14 points and six rebounds, Paul Kovacs of Barrie, Ont. would also add 12 points and six rebounds. Unfortunately this would not be enough for the Voyageurs as Dalhousie went on to defeat Laurentian by a final score 87-69.
The next matchup for the Voyageurs came against Concordia University which saw Laurentian come out on top 94-85 scoring 33 points in the third quarter. Manny and Isiah Pasquale led the way for the Voyageurs as they each put up 18 and 17 points respectively. The final game of the tournament for the Voyageurs was against Acadia University which saw the Voyageurs win their second game in a row by a score of 79-69. Isiah Pasquale led all Voyageurs with 19 points helping Laurentian to a fifth place tournament finish.
After a positive series of exhibition and tournament games, the Voyageurs will look to improve upon their 2-6 record in the OUA standings. Currently sitting in sixth place, two points out of fourth, the Voyageurs will need to keep up their intensity and strong play that they have shown they are capable of. The Voyageurs have been led offensively by Isiah Pasquale and Manny Pasquale who are averaging 15.5 and 13.7 points per game respectively while defensively Matas Tirilis of Mississauga, Ont. leads the way as he is averaging 7.8 rebounds per game.
The Voyageurs will look to start out the New Year with two wins as they travel to the nation's capital for a pair of important games against the Carleton Ravens and Ottawa Gee-Gees.
