M-Basketball Roundup: Windsor dominates Western in second half opener

LONDON, Ont. - The No. 8 Lancer men’s basketball team opened the second half of their season with a convincing 87-72 win over the Western Mustangs on Wednesday night in London.
Windsor is now 8-1 in regular season play and holds sole possession of first place in the OUA West division.
Isaac Kuon led the Lancers with 25 points on 8-for-12 shooting, while Lien Phillip chipped in the team’s sole double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
From there the Lancers dominated the floor with a balanced attack with contributions coming from all sides. Monty Hardware had 15 points, Enrico Diloreto had 13, and Andre Smyth chipped in 11 while Josh Collins had nine assists.
Windsor started the game with hot offensive shooting to hold a five point lead throughout the first quarter. Western kept the game close with some impressive shooting of their own until Windsor managed to gain control defensively to hold the lead for the duration of the game.

Brock, 89 @ Waterloo, 90
WATERLOO, Ont - The Waterloo Warriors overcame a slow start and defeated the visiting Brock Badgers 90-89 in OUA league play on Wednesday night.
The Warriors had scored just six points in the first 6 minutes of play and were behind 15-6 at the first time out. Eventually the Badgers would hold a 12 point lead before Waterloo started to narrow the gap. The second quarter was a complete reversal of the first as Waterloo finally tied it at 35-35 on a Cam McIntyre three with 2 minutes remaining in the half. Waterloo led by 2 at the break, by a score of 39-37.
The second half was all offense as each team scored over 50 in the half.
Waterloo shot over 50% for the second half, although just 1 of 7 from long range. Brock was just under 50% for the half.
Waterloo led the half for all but a brief moment. With Waterloo holding a 7 point lead with just over four minutes remaining Brock went on an 8-0 run to take an 82-81 lead. Waterloo was able to recover the lead and hold on the rest of the way. A Cam McIntyre (Kitchener, Ont.) free throw with 3 seconds remaining made it a four point difference. Brock heaved in a three from long range at the buzzer to make it a one point game.
Cam McIntyre led the Warriors with 38 points, getting at least seven in each quarter. Brendan Smith (Kamloops, BC) had a career best in both points and rebounds with 15 points and 13 rebounds. For the Badgers, Andrew Kraus had 21 points and 10 rebounds, while Mark Gibson with 20 and Mike Cruickshank with 19 rounded out the top scorers.
Waterloo and Brock both have 5-4 records, tied for fourth spot with Western in the tight OUA West.

Laurier, 64 @ McMaster, 72
Hamilton, Ont. – The McMaster men’s basketball team started off the 2011 portion of their season on the right note defeating the Laurier Golden Hawks, 72-64, at the Burridge Gym tonight.
The Marauders took the lead early in the first quarter and survived a second quarter Golden Hawk rally and led the entire second half to improve to 4-5 in conference play.
Cam Michaud (Grimsby, Ont.) led the Marauders with a game high 18 points. Victor Raso (Hamilton, Ont.) and Kenan Etale (Dundas, Ont.) also scored in double figures with 13 and 11 points respectively.
Matthew Buckley (Waterloo, Ont.) was the top scorer for the Golden Hawks with 13 points and 9 rebounds.
