VOYAGEURS ONE WIN AWAY FROM PLAYOFF APPEARANCE
When the Lions and Voyageurs take to the court on Wednesday, it will either secure a playoff spot for the Voyageurs or keep the post-season hopes alive for York. With the final two games for each squad coming against the one another, both teams are in a must win situation as they both look to capture the sixth and final playoff spot in the OUA east.
The York Lions are currently in seventh place with a 4-16 record, they are currently four points behind the Laurentian Voyageurs for the final playoff spot. Two wins for York will see them tied with Laurentian resulting in the Lions making the playoffs as they will have won the head-to-head match-up over the Voyageurs. However, if Laurentian can win one of their remaining two games over York, they will see themselves in the final playoff spot.
The York Lions have battled hard this season, fighting their way to one of the biggest upsets in the country as they defeated the former first ranked, now ranked third Carleton Ravens 80-74. York is led offensively by David Tyndale (Mississauga, Ont.), who is averaging 15.6 points per game and defensively by Dejan Kravic (London, Ont.), who leads his team in rebounding and is fifth in the OUA with 8.5 rebounds per game.
"We're looking forward to our last home league game," said head coach Shawn Swords. "We will look to dictate the tempo of the whole game and bring our regular home intensity and energy from the tip until the final buzzer. It's Matas', Paul's and Justin's last home game and I know the guys will work hard to make it a memorable one."
The Voyageurs look to clinch the final playoff spot this Wednesday, February 17 when they host the York Lions at 6:30 p.m. in the Ben Avery Gym. The game can be viewed live online at www.ssncanada.ca.
