MALE: Maxwell Allin, Laurier Golden Hawks, Basketball
Allin (Chatham, Ont.) had the game of his life this weekend as the Golden Hawks defeated the No. 8 nationally ranked Windsor Lancers for the first time this year, 85-82 to advance to the OUA Final Four. The second year wing earned a career high 36 points as he shot 50% from the field and sunk 11 of 12 free throws including critical baskets late in the game. On top of his scoring he added five rebounds and five assists in the 37 minutes of play. Allin and the Golden Hawks advance to face the Carleton Ravens in the OUA Wilson Cup Final Four Men’s Basketball Championship on March 4-5.
FEMALE: Brittany McHaffie, Queen’s Gaels, Hockey
McHaffie (Guelph, Ont.) scored both game-winning goals in double overtime as the Queen’s Gaels pulled off a stunning upset of the No. 2 Laurier Golden Hawks in the OUA Semifinal last week. In Game 1, the second year physical and health education major scored the game winner and added an assist as the Gaels won 2-1 on the road. Game 2 produced a near similar script as the Gaels fell behind before tying the game in the third period, setting up McHaffie to score the winner once again in double overtime. McHaffie was in on three of the Gaels four goals in the series as Queen’s eliminated the seven-time defending OUA Champions to advance to their first OUA Championship since 2006-07.
