GOLDEN HAWKS MEN'S HOOPS SEASON CLOSES AS HANDS OF LANCERS
The Lancers will now face the Lakehead Thunderwolves for a berth to the Wilson Cup on Saturday, March 6 at 7 p.m. in the OUA West championship game at the St. Denis Centre.
A nail-biting first half saw the Lancers and Golden Hawks go point for point throughout the first two quarters of play.
The Golden Hawks were red-hot from behind the arc as they shot an impressive 69 percent from behind the arch in the first half to keep the game close.
Lancer forward Andre Smyth scored 11 of his 13 points in the first half to help his team keep the score even at half, 45-45.
In the third, the Lancers started to exert their will in the post and from outside as they broke away and built a seven point lead to go ahead 66-59.
Windsor shot 58 percent from field goal range and 50 percent from the three point line in the second half to seize control of the game for good in the third quarter.
The Golden Hawks tried to mount a charge in the fourth but were held away by Isaac Kuon who struck for nine points in the quarter to extend the Lancer lead to 13 points.
The Lancers were not challenged late as they earned the 87-79 victory and advanced to the OUA West championship game next Saturday night.
All five of Windsor's starters hit for double digits, and were led by Nigel Johnson-Tyghter with the game's only double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
Isaac Kuon had another outstanding game with a game high 22 points while Andre Smyth finished with 13 points.
Rookie guards Enrico Diloreto and Josh Collins were also very solid as they chipped in with 12 and 10 points respectively.
Travis Berry led the Golden Hawks with 18 points while Kale Harrison finished the game with 16.
Windsor will now host the OUA West Final against the Lakehead Thunderwolves on Saturday, March 6 at 7 p.m. at the St. Denis Centre.
