CAPERS REBOUND AGAINST THUNDERWOLVES AT FINAL 8
OTTAWA - The second-seeded Cape Breton Capers rebounded from a disappointing opening-round loss with a solid overall effort downing the No. 6 Lakehead Thunderwolves 87-65 on Saturday morning in the first consolation semifinal of the CIS men's basketball championship, at Scotiabank Place.
The AUS champion Capers, who fell 82-74 to No. 7 Calgary in the quarter-final round on Friday, move on to the consolation final for fifth place scheduled for Sunday at 4 p.m. They'll face either No. 5 Windsor or No. 8 UQAM.
The OUA bronze medallists T-Wolves, who were making their first CIS tournament appearance since 1977, return home with an 0-2 record. They lost 79-58 to No. 3 UBC on Friday.

"We hit a couple of threes that were big in the second quarter and that really put us ahead. We also played good defence in the quarter, which was the difference," said Cape Breton head coach Jim Charters.
"The consolation round is the hardest for a team to play. The guys showed great character and (Al) Alilovic stepped up big for Nkrumah."
Cape Breton, which was without the services of CIS defensive player of the year Phillip Nkrumah who suffered an injury on Friday, led from start to finish against Lakehead and was up 16-8 after the first quarter, 44-29 at halftime and 66-47 after 30 minutes of play.
The Capers prevailed thanks to a well-balanced attack as they received 15 points from fifth-year guard Ryan Roper of Hammonds Plains, N.S., and 14 apiece Cameron John-Proctor of Mississauga, Ont., Jimmy Dorsey of Westminster, Maryland, Aljosa Alilovic of Milton, Ont., and Lasario Burrows of Bahamas.
John-Proctor, a sophomore guard, added three rebounds, one assist and one steal on his way to CBU player-of-the-game honours.
Freshman Matt Nagy of Bentonville, Arkansas, paced Lakehead with a match-high 16 points, while sophomore guard Joseph Jones of Washington was named T-Wolves game MVP following a 14-point effort.
Cape Breton shot 47.6% from the field including 50% from three-point range (10-20), while Lakehead were only good on 35% of attempts from the floor and went 8-for-30 from beyond the arc (26.7%). The Thunderwolves also struggled from the charity stripe missing half of their free throw attempts (15-30).
