RAVENS WIN FIFTH STRAIGHT IN MEN'S HOCKEY
Match ups between these two teams have always been close and this was no different. Both the Ravens and Stingers came out hard in the first, but neither could find the back of the net and the game remained scoreless after 20 minutes.
The Stingers opened the scoring five minutes into the second period when Charles-Antoine Messier (Boucherville, Que.) beat Ravens goalie Ryan Dube (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.) to give Concordia the 1-0 lead. But, the Ravens wouldn't back down and answered with a goal of their own. Just minutes later, Brandon MacLean (Burlington, Ont.) put the puck past Stingers goalie Maxime Joyal (Châteauguay, Que.) to tie the game at one.
Both teams fought for the go-ahead goal in the third but yet again neither team would score. Overtime solved nothing and the game went into a shootout. MacLean and Joey Manley (Ottawa) scored for the Ravens. George Lovatsis (Markham, Ont.) was the only Stinger to score, giving Carleton the 2-1 shootout win.
Concordia will be looking for redemption in what promises to be another close match Jan. 20 as they visit the Ice House. The puck drops at 7 p.m.
