Lieutenant Governor of Ontario to present 100th Queen's Cup Hockey Trophy
The 100th playing of the Queen's Cup will feature nationally No. 2 ranked, McGill University and the No. 5 ranked and host Western Mustangs on Saturday March 12, 2011at 3:30 PM at Thompson arena on The University of Western Ontario campus.
McGill students were instrumental in staging the first organized hockey game in Canada on March 3, 1875. McGill is credited with being the oldest hockey team in existence with a history spanning 134 years.
Lieutenant Governor Onley is committed to promoting accessibility to Ontario's 1.5 million people with disabilities, as well as focusing on other issues affecting the disabled, including obstacles to employment and housing. His Honour also has a passion for sport, and travelled to Beijing, China to represent Canada at the 2008 Summer Paralympics.
During the course of the Lieutenant Governor’s visit on Saturday, he will talk with student journalists from The Gazette, the daily student campus newspaper, and meet with University of Western Ontario Faculty of Information Management student and London Blizzard Sledge hockey player, Lane Sargeant.
