PIONEER PETROLEUMS OUA ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
HAMILTON, Ont. – The following student-athletes have been named Pioneer Petroleums Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Athletes of the Week for the period ending February 6, 2011.
Each Pioneer Petroleums OUA Athlete of the Week will receive a $25 gift card and a dri-fit T-shirt, courtesy of Pioneer Petroleums.
MALE: Jason Guy, UOIT Ridgebacks, Hockey
Second-year goalie Jason Guy led the UOIT men's hockey team to two road victories this weekend, as the Ridgebacks defeated Brock 2-1 and the No. 3 Western Mustangs 3-0. After allowing one goal early in the first period against the Badgers, Guy played 115:51 consecutive minutes of shutout hockey en route to the Ridgebacks pair of road victories. On Friday night, the Whitby, Ont. native allowed one goal on 22 Brock shots. Against Western on Saturday night, Guy stopped all 43 shots he faced going on to record his second shutout of the season. This was the first time this season Western had been shutout and it was only their second regulation loss.
FEMALE: Lindsay Druery, Lakehead Thunderwolves, Basketball
Fourth-year forward Lindsay Druery had an outstanding weekend for Lakehead, leading her team to two road victories over the Waterloo Warriors, 73-59 on Friday and 76-59 on Saturday. In Friday's game, Druery scored 20 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to go along with three steals and a blocked shot. On Saturday, she turned it on even more, finishing with a colossal 33 points and 22 rebounds. For the weekend the Smithville, Ont. native averaged 26.5 points per game and 16 rebounds per game. She shot 24 of 34 from the field (70.6%), and drained five of seven from the free throw line (71%).
