Brock, 3 @ Lakehead, 2
After dropping the opener of the weekend series, the Brock Badgers men's hockey team (8-8-6 OUA) rode a three-goal third period to take the final game of the road trip against the No. 10 Lakehead Thunderwolves, 3-2.
It was the home team who got on the board first with a power play marker at 18:44 of the first period. Victor Anilane netted his sixth of the season from Ryan McDonald and Kalvin Sagert with the man advantage.
The Badgers found their scoring touch in the second period. Ryan Allen (Fort McMurray, Alta.) set up Josh Schram (Paris, Ont.) for his fourth of the year 2:35 into the middle frame to even the score. Two and a half minutes later Allen would add his third of the year from Schram and Dan Dooley (St. John, N.B.).
Badger rookie Matt Abercrombie (Sarnia, Ont.) scored his team leading 12th goal of the year to round out the scoring in the second period, with Derek Brochu (Welland, Ont.) and Adam Schwark (Saskatoon, Sask) picking up helpers. Abercrombie's goal would become the game winner when Lakehead's Ryan McDonald scored 6:45 into the third period.
Kurt Jory (Brandon, Man.) shut the door on the Thunderwolves push to even the score late in the contest. Jory made seven of his 27 saves in the third period to earn his eighth win of the season. The Badgers managed managed 19 shots on Lakehead goalie Kyle Moir.

Guelph, 1 @ York, 3
Defenceman Matt Thomson (Kitchener, Ont.) had two assists and the York University Lions scored three early unanswered goals en route to a 3-1 win over the Guelph Gryphons in men's hockey on Saturday (Jan. 22) at Canlan Ice Sports.
Travis Rolheiser (Edmonton) made 35 saves on a busy night in goal for the Lions. Scott VanBommel (Norwich, Ont.) made 27 saves in goal for the Gryphons.
The Gryphons (10-10-2) got the first real scoring opportunities of the game. With Jesse Messier (Keswick, Ont.) in the box for hitting from behind early in the first, the Gryphons went to work on the power play and peppered Rolheiser with several shots, but Rolheiser shut the door, making three big saves in tight to keep the game scoreless.
After weathering the early storm, the Lions (8-15-0) opened the scoring 8:22 into the period with a goal from rookie forward Adam Stuart (Calgary). Stuart broke into the Gryphons' zone on an odd-man rush and waited for VanBommel to open up before sliding the puck through his five-hole and in.
Stuart has 14 points this season and is tied for the team lead with Mackenzie Micks (Orillia, Ont.).
The Lions went up 2-0 late in the period on a power play goal from Messier. Messier waited for traffic to gather in front of the Gryphons' goal before ripping a low shot from the point that beat a screened VanBommel.
The Lions came out firing in the second and were rewarded with their third goal of the game just 2:40 into the period. After sneaking behind the Gryphons' goal, Rob Labute (Toronto) fed a pass out front to an open Jesse Grespan (Toronto) and Grespan fired the puck over VanBommel's outstretched blocker.
The Gryphons replied on the power play when Jon-Thomas MacDonald (Niagara Falls, Ont.) wired a wrist shot past Rolheiser that cut the Lions' lead to 3-1.
The Lions got into penalty trouble in the third period but held on for the win.
Rolheiser was the Lions' best penalty killer in the period. He came up with two huge saves while down two men, which helped preserve an important two-goal lead.

Queen’s, 5 @ Ryerson, 3
Kelly Jackson of Toronto, scored two goals to lead the Queen's Gaels over the Ryerson Rams 5-3 Saturday afternoon.
The win gives the Gaels their third victory in a row, the first time they have accomplished the feat this season.
Jackson scored the eventual winner at 17:24 of the second period on the powerplay. The Gaels powerplay was particularly effective, scoring three of their five goals with the man-advantage.
The Rams began the game with two goals in the first period including a short-handed marker with just over three minutes remaining in the first period. The Gaels responded quickly, however, with Stephane Chabot of Rockland, Ont., scoring just 35 seconds later to pull the Gaels within one.
The Gaels then took over the game in the second period with Jackson scoring his first goal of the game, and seventh of the season just 1:37 into the second, tying the game at two. Patrick McEachen of Stouffville, Ont., scored his first goal as a Gael on the powerplay midway through the second to give the Gaels a lead they would not relinquish.
Daniel Mandel of Toronto, capped off the Gaels scoring with his second of the season at 16:18 of the third period.
Jonathon Lawrence of Steinbach, Man., led the Gaels in scoring tallying four assists in the victory while Joey Derochie of Sudbury, Ont., also added two assists.
Steele De Fazio of Georgetown, Ont., stopped 28 of 31 shots helping him record his seventh win of the season.

UQTR, 6 @ Ottawa, 2
The visiting UQTR Patiotes exacted the revenge on the Gee-Gees they were looking for Saturday night, crushing uOttawa 6-2, after falling to the Gee-Gees 6-1 last weekend.
After both teams squandered their own 5-on-3 chances in the opening minutes of the first period, the Patriotes would set the tone for game scoring back to back goals within 15 seconds of each other.
“I wasn’t pleased with our first five minutes,” said head coach Dave Leger, “so we’re going to have to go back to the drawing board a little.”
The Gee-Gees would score their first goal near the end of the second period. Already down by three, second-year forward Jamie Collins, Timmins, Ont., tipped second-year defenseman Darren Miller’s, Dryden, Ont., blast from the point past first-year goalie Vincent Lamontagne. However any chance of mounting a comeback would be short-lived as UQTR would score their fourth goal by the end of the period.
The third period would feature much of the same for uOttawa. After first-year forward Luc Olivier Blain, Longueuil, Que., notched his 13th goal of the season, UQTR would counter again with a goal, only to add another in the last two minutes of play.

Nipissing, 5 @ RMC, 3
SUNDAY
Ottawa, 2 @ Concordia, 8
After a 6-2 loss to the UQTR Patriotes Saturday night, the Gee-Gees did not get the bounce back game they were hoping for on Sunday, falling 8-2 to the Concordia Stingers.
“It was a really unfortunate game,” said Gee-Gees head coach Dave Leger. “It’s disappointing. I thought it would have been a much better effort considering last night’s loss. These are two points that we will probably regret later down the road.”
The Gee-Gees were down 3-0 before first-year forward Luc Blain, Longueuil, Qué., would net one in for the Gee-Gees just over halfway through the second period to put his team on the scoreboard. However, despite a power play goal by first-year forward Kyle Ireland, Rosetown, Sask., the Stingers would go on to double their score in the third period to finish the game 8-2.
“We turned the puck over too many times, and there was not much in terms of response to the other team. It was a disappointing game all over the ice,” explained Leger.
Nonetheless, Leger added that despite these two losses, “the good news is that we’ll face both these same two teams next weekend.”
