GRYPHONS STYMIE GOLDEN HAWKS 3-0 IN GAME 1 OF MEN'S HOCKEY PLAYOFF
Game two will be played at the Gryphon Centre on Saturday, Feb. 20 at 7:30 p.m.
The match remained tied until the third period when the Gryphons scored on the power play just 3:30 into the period. Kris Belan (Florence, Ont.) picked up his first of the post season which opened up the game. Guelph would score again midway through the period to go up 2-0. The goal was scored by Zach Lillie (Bracebridge, Ont.) gave the Gryphons control on the game. The final goal was an empty netter notched by Matt Lyall (Richmond Hill, Ont.).
Laurier's Jeff MacDougald (Shallow Lake, Ont.) had a strong outing for the Hawks in net stopping 40 of 42 shots on net for a .952 save percentage. Scott VanBommel (Norwich, Ont.) made 31 saves for his second shutout of the season.
The Golden Hawks had a 7-7 record on home ice during the regular season and a 10-4 road record. The Gryphons were 7-7 both home and away.
The last time Laurier was shut out was on January 24 against the Lakehead Thunderwolves.
