STINGERS FORCE GAME 3 AGAINST PATRIOTES
MONTREAL - Alexandre Monahan broke a 1-1 deadlock 12:27 into the third period to lead the Concordia Stingers to a 2-1 victory over the No. 3 nationally-ranked UQTR Patriotes at Ed Meagher Arena on Friday night in Game 2 of their best-of-three playoff series. With the victory, the Stingers force a third and deciding game on Sunday at UQTR.
Concordia jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the opening period when George Lovatsis scored on a set up by Andrew Palombaro.
It remained that way through much of the second period, until Jean-Sebastien Breton scored the equalizer for UQTR on the power play. Francis Charland and Pierre-Luc Lessard earned assists on the play. Monahan then pulled the Stingers out in front for good in the third period.
The Patriotes made Concordia goaltender Maxime Joyal work for his victory, stopping 47 of 48 shots on goal.
Game 3 will take place at Le Colisee in Trois-Rivières, Que. at 2 p.m.
