RAVENS ADD LOCAL TALENT
Former assistant captain of the Ontario Hockey League’s Brampton Battalion, Brad Albert, has committed to next year’s squad.
“[Albert] is a highly skilled athlete who will add some finesse to our lineup,” said Ravens head coach, Marty Johnston. “He’s a great puck-moving defenceman who will contribute on the powerplay and at even strength.”
Drafted 74th overall in the 2005 OHL Priority Selection, the Ottawa native has developed into a solid all-around defenceman. In four seasons with the Battalion, he recorded seven goals and 38 assists and was a +15.“
I like to block shots and throw my body around,” Albert said. “Hopefully I can chip in a bit offensively too.”
Throughout his hockey career, Albert has been a leader. But, it’s not just his performance on the ice that is first-rate. Albert was the recipient of the Gerry Callaghan Memorial Award as Battalion Humanitarian of the Year for two consecutive seasons. “
Winning the humanitarian award speaks for the kind of person he is off the ice,” said Johnston. “He’s a great player and a great person. We feel that he will have a big impact on Carleton athletics and in the community.”
Another local athlete who announced he will join the Ravens next year is Linden Bahm. The winger started his career with the Shawinigan Cataractes in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. After two seasons, he joined the Halifax Mooseheads. During his four seasons in the Q, Bahm scored 34 goals and added 43 assists.
“I like to finish my checks and forecheck hard,” Bahm said. “I should help the offence with scoring and add experience on the penalty kill.”
Johnston said he is excited to bring in an athlete with Bahm’s ability. “[Bahm] has expressed his desire to join a program that is committed to winning and helping him develop academically and athletically,” said Johnston. “He will be a key player in the success of our program.”
Bahm brings valuable character to the Ravens lineup as he was the recipient of the Sarah Morris Memorial Community Involvement Award this season and was a finalist for the QMJHL Humanitarian Award.
“We feel he displays the characteristics of a winner from the conversations with his coaches and scouts,” said Johnston. “When you ask about [Bahm], the same things were said: relentless work ethic and a great teammate. We are lucky to have him involved in our program.”
The two athletes will don the Raven for the first time on September 17 when the team travels to McGill University for its first exhibition game of the season.
