UOIT, 2 @ Laurier, 3
WATERLOO, Ont. - The Golden Hawks defeated the UOIT Ridgebacks 3-2 at the Waterloo Memorial Recreation Complex. With one game remaining in the season, Laurier sits in second place at 15-7-5 while UOIT finish their season at 12-12-4.
The Golden Hawks would start strong in the first period stringing two goals together just over a minute apart. Jordan Bonneville (St. Agatha, Ont.) and Benjamin Skinner (Markham, Ont.) were the goal scorers.
Ryan Daniels (Pickering, Ont.) made a great save, cutting down the angle on a semi breakaway from the Ridgebacks. Not to be outdone, Jason Guy (Whitby, Ont.) would not let out any rebounds on the Laurier power play near the end of the first. He finished the game stopping 28 of 31 shots.
The Golden Hawks would get another power play thirty seconds into the second period. They beat Guy off a rebound, but not before taking the net off. The goal was disallowed. Laurier would increase their lead to three after a bad change by the Ridgebacks. Jordan Bonneville took a stretch pass and fed James Marsden (Exeter, Ont.) in front who banged in his own rebound. Both skaters finished with two points on the night.
UOIT defenseman John McCullough (Barrie, Ont.) scored on a beautiful tic-tac-toe goal for the first of his OUA career. The Ridgebacks would cut the lead to one with a goal from Nathan Spaling (Drayton, Ont.) less than twenty second later.
Unable to find the equalizer, UOIT would pull Jason Guy with forty seconds left in the game. Skating hard in the corner, Kyle Van de Bospoort would draw a hooking call that forced a face-off in the Ridgeback end. Unable to pull their goalie, UOIT fell 3-2. Laurier took the season series 2-1.
